A leaked concept design from the cancelled the late Carrie Fisher) take up some degree of training in the Force, only for her to set it aside in favor of her political and military career as a leader in both the New Republic and Resistance.

This hasn’t stopped fans from wondering what it would have been like had Leia followed her brother Luke on the path of a Jedi, especially after Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, which had players battle her on the forest moon of Endor as a dark clone of series protagonist Starkiller.

Developer Free Radical's planned fourth installment of the original Star Wars Battlefront series also flirted with the idea of Leia as a Jedi, as one of the many leaked concept images for the game depicts the legendary Princess dressed in the robes of a champion of the Light Side of the Force. Posted on similar concept art of Darth Vader from the same project, the artwork shows off a few different variations of Leia’s hypothetical Jedi attire, which consists of grey and cream-colored robes, dark brown boots, and the prerequisite blue lightsaber.

Originally announced alongside Star Wars Battlefront 3, Star Wars Battlefront 4 would have been set in an alternate timeline in which legendary heroes like Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan Kenobi had fallen to the Dark Side of the Force, while infamous villains like Darth Maul and Count Dooku were instead paragons of the Light. The game was shelved when Free Radical filed for bankruptcy in 2008, but several intriguing pieces of concept art from it wound up on the internet, providing fans with a glimpse at how the game might have looked had it been finished.

Given the brief whispers of power Leia demonstrated throughout the Sequel Trilogy, the idea of seeing her fully embrace the role of a Jedi in some capacity remains a fascinating concept, and her outfit from the unproduced Star Wars Battlefront 4 is appropriately regal for the strong yet beautiful Princess of the Rebellion. Perhaps Disney might explore this in either a "what if" comic book or video game storyline in the future, but for now, fans will have to settle for imagining what could have been.
