Summary

  • A patch fixes a 19-year-old bug in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, but neglects the main issues since launch.
  • Only 3 multiplayer fixes in Update 1 for the Classic Collection, while players still face server problems.
  • More server-side adjustments are promised for an improved online multiplayer experience in updates.

Aspyr has released the first major update for disastrous launch.

Aspyr's patch notes confirmed a fix for an issue Star Wars: Battlefront 2 had back at its 2005 launch in which Republic and Rebel factions lost two reinforcements instead of one every time one of them died on the Death Star. This was the only level in which this happened, and it didn't occur for the Empire and CIS factions, giving them an advantage. While PC players originally used mods to fix this in the previous titles, PlayStation and Xbox players have had to endure this imbalance for nearly two decades.

Update 1 is available now on Steam, and will be coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles once the submission and certification process has been completed.

From players experiencing server issues, missing cutscenes, and bugs, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has had a disastrous launch.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection's Servers Still Seem To Be An Issue

Multiplayer Is Still Frustrating Players

While the 40 fixes for control schemes, visuals, Hero Assault's bonus characters Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress, audio, and more are a good start to getting Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection back on track, there are only three fixes noted for Multiplayer, which are listed below:

  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2 - Fixed a crash related to client message sends.
  • Star Wars: Battlefront 2 - Fixed the launch prompt to be present after timing out or selecting cancel while ing a server.
  • Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 - Fixed -locked games to no longer appear via the Quick Match option.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection still sits at an "Overwhelmingly Negative" review score on Steam, however, with many players still expressing frustration with the game's multiplayer. At launch, over 10,000 players tried to access Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which the game wasn't prepared for as only three multiplayer servers were online at the time. Each server only allowed up to 64 players, coming to a total of just 192 spaces available.

Aspyr did add more servers since launch, and the Update 1 patch notes did state that it's "continuing to make server-side adjustments to improve the online multiplayer experience", but with one of the major selling points for the title being the return of its beloved multiplayer modes, it's understandable that players are frustrated with the lack of new fixes for these modes in Update 1. Hopefully, Update 2 - which Aspyr is currently planning - will focus more on this side of the game to get the overall experience back on track.
