There is such a wide variety of relationships in the Star Wars franchise that can lead to some seriously emotional moments. An example of a specific moment that repeatedly appears with Star Wars characters, so often being impactful and wonderful when done right, are character reunions.

There are many different types of character reunions, like two characters who did not know if they would see each other again or were apart for a long time, or even two bitter enemies rekindling their rivalry. Often, these reunions are highlights of the movie or show they are in.

Kylo Ren & Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren battle in Star Wars The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi may be the most divisive Star Wars movie of all time, and it may not have an actual lightsaber on lightsaber duel, but that does not mean the face-off between Kylo and Luke is not incredible.

Seeing the two face-offs for the first time since Luke's nephew fell to the dark side was tense, with a fantastic exchange and terrific performances from both Adam Driver and Mark Hamill. While the lightsabers did not clash, the meaning behind it all, the reveal, and the emotion behind Luke's death, combined with Kylo's anger and Luke's calm demeanor, make this a great reunion nonetheless.

Finn/BB-8 & Poe Dameron

Finn and Poe reunite on the Resistance base in Star Wars The Force Awakens

The relationship between Finn and Poe is one of the best of the sequel trilogy, a bromance that provides a bunch of brilliant moments across all three movies of the trilogy.

One of the very best and sweetest is only their second meeting with one another. After getting separated on Jakku with Poe presumed dead, the two are reunited on Jakku and run across the Resistance base to hug one another. It is a wonderful moment, especially given the fantastic chemistry between the two.

Han Solo & Chewbacca

Chewie hugs Han in Return of the Jedi

The friendship between Han and Chewbacca is one of the best and most consistent of the franchise, and, when Han is frozen in carbonite for a year, it is the longest the two seemed to have been apart since they met all those years ago.

When Han gets thrown in Jabba's dungeon after Leia frees him, he is blindly met by a jubilant Chewbacca who grabs, hugs, and banters with his friend, even stroking his hair in a sign of great affection. It is a short yet such sweet moment.

Luke Skywalker & Yoda

Yoda and Luke watch the Jedi tree burn on Ach-To in The Last Jedi

Undoubtedly one of the best scenes in The Last Jedi is when Yoda appears to Luke and burns down the tree on Ach-To, all the while imparting some serious wisdom on the toubled Jedi.

The appearance from Yoda here is arguably his very best on the big screen since The Empire Strikes Back, and, despite some iconic prequel trilogy wisdom, the quotes from Yoda here are also the best since those initial training sessions. Mark Hamill once again helped this scene with his performance, and it is a moment that brings a smile to all fan's faces and a reunion everyone is thankful we got to see in the sequels.

Kanan Jarrus & Hera Syndulla

Kanan Jarrus sacrifices himself to save his friends in Star Wars Rebels

Kanan and Hera have one of the very best romances not just in Star Wars, but in all animation, with a slow-burning relationship eventually culminating in a totally heartbreaking ending.

The pair had two great reunions, the first coming when Kanan returned from Malachor, now blind, and is greeted by a hug from Hera. The second, though, comes in the final season, when the Empire captures Hera, and Kanan rescues her. The two confess their love, but, unfortunately, this reunion led to Kanan's sacrifice, with one final destructive and poetic moment between the two as Kanan's sight comes back for mere seconds before he saves Hera's life by sacrificing his own.

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader

Darth Vader fighting Obi-Wan on the Death Star

Unfortunately, the first-ever lightsaber duel, the battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader on the Death Star, has not aged as well as the others from the trilogy, but it is still a vital point in the Skywalker saga, and with all the content since, it is a great reunion.

The Obi-Wan series on Disney+ will explore the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin more and may even present fans with another meeting between the two. But as of now, the last time they met was on Mustafar. That packs a lot of emotion into the scene, as Obi-Wan sacrifices himself to his former friend to save the heroes' lives who would bring him back to the light.

Leia Organa & Han Solo

Han and Leia hug in The Force Awakens

Just like the other romance mentioned earlier between Kanan and Hera, Han and Leia have two distinct reunions that are both great, fitting for one of the best and most iconic relationships in cinema.

Of course, Leia saving Han from carbonite freezing is a badass scene for Leia and a fantastic moment between the two. The more emotional reunion comes in The Force Awakens when they meet after their time apart due to their son's fall to the dark side. It is nostalgic, emotional, and heartwarming, made bittersweet by the fact that not long after, the two say goodbye for the last time.

Luke Skywalker & Leia Organa

Luke and Leia are reunited on Crait in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The other pairing to reunite out of the original trilogy trio was the most important siblings in the Galaxy, Luke, and Leia, who never got to meet in person again, but still got a wonderful reunion in The Last Jedi.

What makes this such a powerful reunion is, of course, the fact that Carrie Fisher had heartbreakingly ed away by the time of the film, adding so much meaning to Luke's kiss to her forehead and telling her that nobody is ever really gone. It is such a wonderfully crafted scene, packed with impact and meaning.

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Maul

Obi-Wan and Maul in Star Wars Rebels

There is a definite argument that Obi-Wan Kenobi and Maul have the greatest rivalry in Star Wars. In of TV, they are unbeaten and never have an encounter that is not an awesome watch.

When Maul returns to the Galaxy in The two have a final duel that is not long or action-packed, but so tense and wonderful, with such an incredible history and story packed into it. Maul, beat up from the desert, Obi-Wan using Qui-Gon's stance to draw Maul in, and Maul dying in Obi-Wan's arms, the whole sequence induces goosebumps.

Darth Vader & Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano fighting Darth Vader on Malachor in Star Wars Rebels

In of heroes and villains reuniting, there is none better than the reunion between Ahsoka Tano and her old master in "Twilight of the Apprentice," a unique reunion and one that is so powerful for those who followed the Ahsoka story.

Every line of dialogue that the two share is heartbreaking; Ahsoka itting Rebels was building to the two having this encounter, and it delivered in every way and more as a reunion between two characters who had such a remarkable bond and relationship and who had not seen each other since the events of the Siege of Mandalore.
