Star Wars universe—features a number of weird but cool droids. These include the kitchen droid, which is as good a cook as it is with knives, and the Scorpenek Annihilator Droid, which does a great job of outfoxing the Mandalorians in battles.
But do these droids rank among the best in the Star Wars franchise overall? Over the decades, dozens of new droids have been introduced, each imive in its own unique way. However, there are those that fans adore more, and nowhere else is the adoration more evident than on Ranker.
MSE-6-Series Repair Droid (Mouse Droid)
Commonly found in star destroyers, the Mouse Droid's tasks include cleaning surfaces, repairing machines, and delivering messages. It's mostly used by the Republic Navy over the course of the Clone Wars.
At first glance, the Mouse Droid seems too basic but it has many impressive features. Those who own it don't have to worry about information leaks since the Mouse Droid has the ability to melt if captured by enemies. It has a sense of teamwork too. Several droids can gather up in cases of emergencies in order to perform a single complex task. Moreover, anyone that grows tired of its functionality and appearance can modify it too - something that becomes evident during Yuuzhan Vong War, where such droids are modified to become YVH-M droids.
B2-Series Super Battle Droid
During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems introduces the B2 as part of its military. This version is shown to be much more advanced than the B1.
The B2 is valuable because it can independently function on its own. Unlike the B1, it doesn't require a command system. Moreover, its thicker armor casing means it cannot be shot down or sliced easily. The downside? It only has a single processor, meaning it can't formulate strategies on its own. In The Mandalorian, B2s also struggle to aim their weapons correctly.
D-O
First appearing in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the D-O originally belongs to the Ochi of Bestoon. It's reported to have been created by a mysterious droidsmith.
The D-O's major appeal is tied to the fact that it's a new droid in the franchise that happens to have incredible communication skills. Since it speaks a less complex version of droid binary, other droids find it easier to understand it. Even more remarkable is its sense of morality. It resents Ochi for his actions and goes on to celebrate when his reign of terror finally comes to an end.
IG-100 MagnaGuard
The MagnaGuard becomes popular during General Grievous' reign. As the Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies, he uses a number of MagnaGuards as his personal security during the Clone Wars.
The MagnaGuard shines because of its endurance. Even when its head or limb is cut off, it can still continue fighting. And thanks to the electro staff it comes with, it can easily block attacks from Jedi lightsabers. Not to mention that it can fly a Starfighter too. But above all, the most impressive thing about MagnaGuards is their penchant for tag-teaming. Because they love fighting as duos in battle, defeating them is nothing more than a dream to many heroic characters.
BB-8
Originating from the planet, Hosnian Prime, the BB-8 comes into existence 30 years after the Battle of Endor. Its most notable owner is Poe Dameron.
While a good number of privately owned droids tend to be shy, BB-8 stands out because of its courage. On several occasions, it has put its own life on the line to save others, rescuing Poe a total of 3 times. Speaking in 27th generation code, a compressed binary form, its speech has also led to some comical moments since fans have seen it make other characters laugh and smile. This droid was definitely one of the best things to come out of the sequel trilogy.
L3-37
The L3-37 frequently accompanies Lando Calrissian whenever he goes. The L3-37 distinguishes herself from other droids in many ways, including the fact that she's an activist that fights for droid rights.
She is quite the independent droid too as she doesn't rely on others to build or fix it. As a self-assembling droid, L3-37 is known to make modifications to her body using scraps from other droid.
Droideka
The Droideka battle droid is used by the Trade Federation during the Naboo invasion and, also, by the powerful Confederacy of Independent Systems. It's programmed to kill its enemies.
The Droideka's ability to improvise is what awes franchise fans. Depending on the task at hand, it can curl itself into a ball and roll at speeds of up to 75 kph or use its 3 legs to move. And since it comes with its own shield generators, launching a strike against it is quite a difficult task. The shield is only a problem to enemies because the Droideka itself can fire through it.
IG-88
The IG-88 is known all over the galaxy as an assassin and bounty hunter. Because of how dangerous it is, it has been banned in many regions of the galaxy.
What makes the IG-88 so deadly is the wide variety of weapons in its possession. From a DAS-430 Neural Inhibitor to a "butcher" vibro-blade, it never lacks something to use while attacking. Since it has a mind of its own, the IG-88 has also proven to be a schemer. It's responsible for planning the Droid Revolution where droids of all kinds were influenced to try and take over the galaxy.
K-2S0
Initially created as a security droid to serve the Galactic Empire. the K-2S0 ends up getting reprogrammed by Captain Cassian Andor and switching allegiance to the Resistance. In the Battle of Scarif, it sacrifices itself for Andor.
The majority of galaxy droids are emotionless but the K-2S0 is shown to be in touch with its feelings. It effortlessly switches between being sarcastic and stoic. Thanks to its "nonsense detector," it's fond of disobeying orders it believes don't make sense. But its insubordination isn't necessarily a bad thing as it tends to make it an entertaining droid.
IG-11
IG-11 serves as an assassin during the New Republic Era and it is programmed to follow the Bounty Hunters' Guild.
Thanks to his marvelous exploits in The Mandalorian, it's no shocker that the IG-11 is a fan favorite. Since his body cannot be damaged by turret fire, the IG-11 enjoys throwing himself in harm's way, knowing there will not be much harm. Thanks to his daredevilry, action scenes involving the IG-11 have felt more wholesome.
