In the Star Wars franchise, small details matter a lot. As such, even one-time weapons rarely go unnamed, and neither do the starships. In a galaxy that boasts more than 1.3 million inhabitable planets, quick and effective means of transportation are necessary. Hundreds of ships have been featured in the franchise's movies, TV shows, books, and video games.

Ever since the (fictional) invention of the hyperdrive, most ships can move faster than the speed of light, making it easier for them to journey between different solar systems. But which have been the most impressive so far in of design, functionality, and general wow factor? Redditors have picked a few.

Azure Angel

Anakin's Azure Angel as seen in Star Was novels

The Azure Angel is piloted by Anakin Skywalker during the beginning of the Clone Wars event. TheRexen calls it beautiful, adding, "It's one of the reasons I keep coming back to Clone Wars by Gendy Tartakovsky."

Unlike most of the other ships, the Azzure Angel's name, which is rather saccharine to the ears, isn't linked to its functionality. Instead, it's linked to one of the best Star Wars romances. Anakin named it after his lover, Pé Amidala. It isn't basic either since Anakin was seen making several modifications to it to enhance performance. Thanks to the improvements, it's almost indestructible.

Naboo N1 Starfighter

Redditor skysamfreeman says, "As far as design goes I’ve always thought the Naboo N1 Starfighter was the best." The N1 is mostly used by the Royal Naboo Security Forces for patrol and defense.

The fact that the N1 has recently been picked by Mando as one of his preferred ships makes it more special. In Episode 5 of the most expensive Fast & Furious cars, the Noble M600.

Vulture-Class Droid Starfighter

PawSkywalker argues the Vulture Droid is the best because "they don't even need to recruit someone to fly it." It's normally used as a combat ship by the Trade Federation and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Unmanned aircraft translates to fewer casualties, which makes the Vulture-Class Droid Starfighter a more ideal ship for any galactic general or rebel leader to have. Additionally, it's implied that the Vultures come with good luck because they are manufactured in Xi Char's cathedral factories, where precision engineering is considered an act of worship.

The Executor

Darth Vador's Executor flies through the galaxy in Star Wars

The personal ship of the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader, is considered iconic too. DarthSatoris states, "The Executor is one formidable ship. One of the largest ships in sci-fi history at 19 km in length."

Initially, The Devastator is already good enough as Vader's starship, so the fact that he considers The Executor an improvement says a lot. As the commanding ship of the Death Squadron, The Executor proves to be very effective during battle scenes. Moreover, its numerous chambers make it harder to destroy.

Star Destroyer

Three Star Destroyers from Star Wars

The Star Destroyer is used by the Galactic Republic, the First Order, the Galactic Empire, and the Sith Eternal at different stages. Redditor johnsnoflake76 states, "I always thought that the simple Star Destroyer always stood out to me as having one of the most atmospheric/identifiable designs of the franchise."

A line of dialogue from former Haidoral Prime Governor, Everi Chalis confirms its awesomeness, According to her, the Star Destroyer is the most resource-intensive ship in the galaxy. There's variety too among the Star Destroyer, with notable examples of sub-models being the Star Dreadnoughts and the Battlecruisers.

T-65 X-Wing

A T-65 as seen on the set of Rogue One

Redditor dswartze believes the T-65 is the best of the best. They declare, "I don't think anything can top the T-65 X-Wing even though many have tried."

The T-65 is arguably the most perfect ship for combat. Like fighter jets, the T-65 only has a pilot's seat. Its small size makes it ideal for maneuvering tight spaces and dodging attacks by enemy ships. Another thing that makes it a pilot's dream is its transparisteel canopy that blocks harmful light as well as the life systems that can go up to a week. Thanks to its reliability, it went on to become one of the Rebel Alliance's most used ships.

Hammerhead Corvette

The Hammerhead Corvette used by the Rebellion in Star Wars: Rebels.

Hammerheads are shown to be a preferred means of transportation for the Resistance. Rogue One is a big bonus."

Hammerheads are superior to most ships because they are more secure, as they were specifically built to transport individuals and goods without having to rely on escort ships. Its cylinder-shaped hull makes it perfect for carrying cargo. According to Star Wars: Rebel Files it's said to be capable of carrying 22,833 metric tons.

TIE Starfighter

Jcowl34 is impressed by the TIE, commenting, "It looks nothing like a flying craft yet it is, and it looks evil as hell." Referred to as "eyeballs" by New Republic pilots, the TIEs are used by Imperial forces during the Galactic Civil War.

The TIE looks a lot more like a satellite than a ship and the Redditor is right by describing the TIE as one of the most unique-looking starships. Sadly, its brilliance only lies in the aesthetics. The ships get destroyed easily during battles hence it's a requirement for pilots to make a vow of expandability before g up to fly them.

The Visionary

Exchange criminal organization leader G0-T0 uses The Visionary as a means of transportation. SevenSulkySerbs comments, "I really like how much about the ship's defenses you can learn while trying to escape from it too."

As one of the few ships owned by an actual droid, The Visionary is easy to pick out from the rest. And apart from simply being a mode of transportation, The Visionary also serves as a Droid Control Center from which thousands of droids across the galaxy are commanded. And as the perfect villain base, it has holding cells and torture chambers.

Slave I

The Slave I moves through the galaxy in Star Wars

AncientSith feels the Slave I has "a great design and some of the best sound effects in the entire franchise." The ship is first owned by Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, and his son Biba Fett.

The Slave I's most impressive feature is its military sensor, which allows it to jam signals and disappear from any scanning system. Another bit of engineering creativity found in it is a deck that allows engers to remain upright no matter the position the ship is in. Its name is fitting too since it has very secure compartments to prevent prisoners from escaping.
