14 years after Bo-Katan Kryze's introduction to the Star Wars universe in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, she has become an integral part of Mandalore's story in the galaxy far, far away. As one of the few Star Wars characters to be played by the same actor in both animation and live-action, Mandalorian history itself, hailing from the royal Kryze family. Bo-Katan was also the first female Mandalorian warrior to be seen onscreen with her debut in The Clone Wars, emphasizing her importance even more.

Of course, not every single one of her story arcs has held the same amount of merit. This was certainly the case early on, when even the storytellers didn't know how much Bo-Katan's role would continue to grow with each new appearance in The Clone Wars and beyond. Even some more recent stories hold less weight than others, but at the end of the day, each one informs audiences about a great deal when it comes to both Mandalore and Bo-Katan as a character. With all of these factors considered, here are Bo-Katan's best stories, ranked.

6 Bo-Katan's Clone Wars Debut

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 4, Episode 14 "A Friend in Need"

There's no understating just how impactful Bo-Katan's debut episode is, not only because it introduces audiences to Bo-Katan herself, but also because it's Star Wars' first look at a female Mandalorian warrior - which, in retrospect, is monumental for the entire franchise. Despite this achievement, however, and that of bringing Bo-Katan into the Star Wars story, there isn't much else that really happens as far as Bo-Katan is concerned in "A Friend in Need." While the story is certainly an excellent one, all it does for Bo is give her an established backstory.

Bo-Katan Kryze is a key character in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian, with a debut that was ground-breaking for the Star Wars franchise.

Even then, Bo-Katan's backstory isn't even shown in much depth here. She doesn't even remove her helmet in this episode, which keeps her character shrouded in quite a bit of mystery. Bo-Katan herself plays a rather minor role compared to Pre Vizsla here, too, even if the unique design of her helmet helps her to stand out from the rest. While it's a memorable introduction to a character who would go on to become a defining Mandalorian in Star Wars history, its story is overall still lackluster compared to Bo-Katan's other arcs.

5 The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian Season 2, Episodes 3 "Chapter 11: The Heiress" & 8 "Chapter 16: The Rescue"

The Mandalorian season 2 is what welcomes Bo-Katan to the live-action realm of Star Wars, allowing Sackhoff to physically step into the role for the first time after years of voice acting for Star Wars animation. Bo-Katan's debut in The Mandalorian is a memorable one, particularly because she was the first major Star Wars animation character to appear in this TV show, but her character's role in the season is overall very limited. While this serves the purpose of setting up Bo-Katan's season 3 story, it still does quite little for season 2's overall plot.

If anything, Bo-Katan's story in The Mandalorian season 2 is a bit frustrating, if not for the wishy-washy way she treats Death Watch herself, and having recognized the error of her ways, she's quick to judgment on him - even when it's clear that he's confused about the name of his own group, and likely has little to no attachments to what the Death Watch even used to be. Bo then quickly seeks out Din's help, which is quite a shift.

Beginning in 2019, The Mandalorian's story has become absolutely essential to the Star Wars narrative. This is the complete timeline of its events.

Bo-Katan, however, continues to go back-and-forth with Din, changing the of their deal and mocking his people's "This is the Way" catchphrase before uttering it more honorably later on after Din's proven his bravery to her. It adds nuance to her character, certainly, but does go against the development she had in both The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels up until that point. This continues when she talks down to Boba Fett later on as well. Overall, this arc for Bo feels like little more than a setup for a future story that functions much better for her.

4 The Clone Wars' "The Lawless" Arc

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 5, Episodes 14, 15, & 16

The Clone Wars season 5 arc that leads up to episode 16 "The Lawless" is no doubt one of the animated TV show's best, as it shows Darth Maul's rise to power on Mandalore and the roots of his powerful criminal empire - all of which Bo-Katan plays a role in. This arc is a rather shocking exploration of Bo-Katan's darker backstory, showing just how far she was willing to go as a member of the Death Watch to reestablish her people's warrior ways. Bo-Katan doesn't even seem to be bothered by open suggestions of assassinating her own sister, Duchess Satine.

Were it not for this arc, it would be harder to see just how much Bo-Katan has changed.

Of course, this secret isn't revealed until "The Lawless" itself, when Obi-Wan Kenobi confirms it at the end of the episode. Still, this arc is vital to Bo-Katan's character development, as audiences watch her witness and participate in the Death Watch and Maul's atrocities. It proves that she has come a long way, no longer the person who allowed children's lives to go at risk as the Death Watch and their criminal allies staged fake attacks to deceive the people of Mandalore. Were it not for this arc, it would be harder to see just how much Bo-Katan has changed.

This is also a fascinating arc in its own right, and Bo-Katan plays a bigger role in it than she does in her debut episode - particularly in "The Lawless." Obi-Wan's freedom from Maul's custody is only possible because of Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls, which definitely makes Bo a key player. She's the one who inspires some of her fellow Mandalorians to stand up against Maul, despite the risks it poses, and begins to accept the possibility that she could one day lead Mandalore, especially as their new heir. There are certainly better arcs for Bo-Katan, but this one is exceptional.

3 Star Wars Rebels' Reclamation Of Mandalore

Star Wars Rebels Season 4, Episodes 1& 2 "Heroes of Mandalore: Parts 1 & 2"

Between the events of The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Bo-Katan goes a long way. She is no longer actively seeking to take the Mandalorian throne herself, instead insistent upon uniting as many Mandalorians as she can for the sake of fighting the Empire to free their homeworld. This is clearly displayed in the Rebels season 4 premiere, "Heroes of Mandalore," which sees Darksaber that she had found and trained with.

Sabine's Link To Bo-Katan & The Darksaber Explained

Sabine is training to become a Jedi in Ahsoka, but she is still linked to two essential parts of Mandalorian history: Bo-Katan and the Darksaber.

What's significant in this arc for Bo-Katan is how much she values honor above all else, no longer fixating on the motivations that once pushed her to be a member of the Death Watch in her youth. When Sabine is filled with rage at the Empire and is prepared to kill them with the very same weapon that was designed to kill Mandalorians, it's Bo-Katan who talks her down and reminds her what true Mandalorian honor means. It's a huge shift from who Bo-Katan used to be, which is what inspires Sabine to give the Darksaber to her.

The only drawbacks of this arc now are how other stories, most notably The Mandalorian, have changed it in retrospect. It was learned later on that Bo-Katan accepting the Darksaber as a gift rather than in combat would be seen as shameful, although the moment seen here couldn't be more noble. Still, this story is an important step in Bo-Katan's journey, easily making it one of her best.

2 The Siege Of Mandalore Arc

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7, Episodes 9, 10, & 11

As iconic and beloved as The Clone Wars is, there's no doubt that the Siege of Mandalore arc is its best. While much of that has to do with its Order 66 sequence, which sees Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex managing to survive the devastating ordeal, Bo-Katan is an important part of the first two-and-a-half episodes of this key arc. Similarly to Bo-Katan's arc in Rebels, the Mandalorian heiress' growth is shown here, where she approaches Ahsoka Tano - previously a sworn enemy - for help in defeating Maul and reclaiming Mandalore.

It's the first time, within the Star Wars timeline, that Bo-Katan truly proves that she's changing into the Mandalorian she is in The Mandalorian era.

This alliance is key, as Bo-Katan and Ahsoka will go on to stay in touch as allies during not only the Galactic Civil War, but also after, as seen in The Mandalorian season 2. It all starts here, when Bo-Katan works alongside Ahsoka and other Republic forces to free Mandalore. There's a great deal of learning and changing Bo-Katan does as a result of her working with the Republic and focusing on Mandalore as it already is, rather than her own ambitions for her homeworld, which becomes the first key step in redeeming herself from her dark Death Watch past.

On the whole, the Siege of Mandalore is an absolutely fantastic arc, and Bo-Katan's key role in it all makes it all the better. It's the first time, within the Star Wars timeline, that Bo-Katan truly proves that she's changing into the Mandalorian she is in The Mandalorian era. Her combat skills being in use are only a further bonus, as any opportunity to see a warrior as skilled as Bo-Katan in action is truly a thrill. Her alliance with Ahsoka starts a new era for the Jedi and Mandalorians alike - making it only second to one other Bo-Katan story.

1 The Mandalorian Season 3

The Mandalorian Season 3, Episodes 1-8

As controversial as The Mandalorian season 3 continues to be today, there's no doubting just how important and noteworthy it is for Bo-Katan herself. She completes a great deal of growth in this story, more than she has in any other, as she overcomes her own self-doubt, regrets, and past grudges to truly unite the Mandalorians and regain a homeworld they weren't sure they would ever get to live on again. Her story is inspiring, and it proves that she's now a far cry from the Death Watch member she once was during the Clone Wars.

Did Bo-Katan Really Need Redemption In Star Wars? (& Did She Ever Actually Earn It?)

Bo-Katan Kryze is one of Star Wars' most important Mandalorian characters, but she's had a turbulent past. Did she deserve to be redeemed?

Bo-Katan, of course, doesn't start out the story like this, which is what makes it such a fascinating journey. Through her friendship with Din Djarin, she's able to understand him and his people, giving her crucial insight as to how other groups of Mandalorians think and act. Bo-Katan learns that her Mandalorian way isn't the only way, and that they can still live in harmony despite their differences - because, at the end of the day, they're all Mandalorian warriors who love their culture and their homeworld. To see her make this transformation is extremely rewarding.

She completes a great deal of growth in this story, more than she has in any other, as she overcomes her own self-doubt, regrets, and past grudges to truly unite the Mandalorians and regain a homeworld they weren't sure they would ever get to live on again.

It may not be a flawless story, with various pacing issues and the fact that she essentially has to take over Din Djarin's own show to tell this story, but it's still Bo-Katan's best story beyond a shadow of a doubt. The fact that it sends up such a crucial ending for her, taking her beyond a life of constantly reclaiming Mandalore over and over again in vicious cycles, makes it even better. Bo-Katan Kryze likely has a wealth of other Star Wars stories left to tell, but as of now, The Mandalorian season 3 is certainly her best.
