Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Book of Boba Fett episode 3.
The Mandalorian season 2. Now, viewers learn more about his journey through his own Disney+ series, effectively reframing people's perception of Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison).
The Mandalorian season 2 premiere confirmed a long-standing theory about Boba Fett's survival from his Sarlacc pit fall. After helping Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Desposito), he and his trusted mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) return to Tatooine as Boba Fett begins his attempt to take over as the next crime lord of Mos Espa. Lord Fett's attempt to take over Jabba the Hutt's former turf proves to be complicated, however. Aside from a conflict with The Mayor, things are further complicated by an appearance from The Twins, Jabba's cousins who also want to lay claim on the territory.
In The Book of Boba Fett episode 3 ("The Streets of Mos Espa"), The Twins made their boldest move by sending Boba Fett was considered a Star Wars villain—albeit a cool one. But his words to Black Krrsantan effectively remind people that it was never personal.
This fits well with Star Wars' attempt to flesh out and humanize the titular character in The Book of Boba Fett. When he debuted in the '70s not much was revealed about him, and before the franchise could fully utilize the character, he was seemingly killed off in Boba Fett is inherently good. This has taken some of his edge off, which some fans might not particularly like. If anything, between him and his ally, Fennec acts more ruthless than Lord Fett, suggesting that they establish themselves as an unforgiving daimyo to earn the respect of Mos Espa.
While nothing has been confirmed at this point, it seems likely that Lord Fett's story will continue beyond The Book of Boba Fett season 1, with subsequent seasons and possibly even more spinoffs potentially in the works at Disney. This isn't surprising considering the success of The Mandalorian and the show's narrative. What will be interesting is if Star Wars plans to fully redeem Boba Fett's character, essentially making him a proper hero at the end of his own show.
The Book of Boba Fett airs every Wednesday on Disney+.
