An incredible new end of The Book of Boba Fett, but most viewers will always think of Boba as a bounty hunter. Sometimes he worked for the Empire, and sometimes against them, from the Firespray still known to fans as Slave I.

An incredible new piece of VFX by Dayton Busse shows a scene in which Boba clashes with an Imperial Star Destroyer. Beautifully rendered, it showcases both Boba's own firepower - inherited from his father, Jango Fett - and Busse's skill. The VFX artist dreamed of recreating the seismic charge from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and he's done a phenomenal job.

How Dayton Busse Brought One Of Star Wars' Most Iconic Weapons To Life

An incredible piece of VFX work

Fan created ISD from Star Wars

Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, Busse outlined his process.

"I started off by making the seismic charge from scratch and turning it into a USD asset I could reuse in multiple shots. Then I created the Star Destroyer destruction scene through lots of trial and error and tweaking of simulations in Houdini (I included a breakdown below). Those two things probably took the most time!

After the "money shot" was done, the 3D stuff on the other scenes was mostly just camera animation and some simple animation/fx on the ships and lasers, which was just tedious work. So I made some reuseable USD assets for the Star Destroyer, Slave 1, and the Lighting setup to make the work go by faster. I rendered everything out with many different es and composited everything in Nuke. "

As an FX artist, Busse was always impressed by the seismic charge used by Jango Fett. "It needed a little bit of story to go along with it though, and I’ve also always been a fan of Boba Fett," he explained. "I wanted to try to make something that made him seem badass and true to the original character we saw in Episodes 5 and 6, and I wanted to make something that would make me excited if I saw it in the theater."

The Book of Boba Fett gave one of the most popular Original Trilogy characters their time in the spotlight - but will Boba Fett be back for season 2?

"I thought it would be cool to have Boba Fett drop a bomb and then jump to hyperspace, kind of the equivalent of having an action hero not look at an explosion as they walk away. We've never seen the seismic charge used on a Star Destroyer, so I thought that would be a cool target."

Busse's Work Is Some Of The Most Impressive I've Ever Seen

This is a true work of art

Boba Fett's Firespray created by a fan

Busse is absolutely right to call himself a VFX artist. We tend to take VFX for granted, but franchises like Star Wars are nothing without the work of talented creators who bring the action scenes to life. The seismic charge in Attack of the Clones is an absolutely unforgettable moment, but Busse's approach - showing its impact on a Star Destroyer - is a fantastic twist.

The classic Star Wars movies depended on models and miniatures, but modern Star Wars uses VFX and computer creations to phenomenal effect. Busse dreams of one day working at one of the major VFX houses, such as Industrial Light and Magic, and this is certainly a fantastic demonstration of his skill. Hopefully, this won't be the last time we see him work with Star Wars.
