The Last Jedi and its infamous "Broom Boy". Shown at the end of Episode VIII, the stable boy on Canto Boy is shown using the Force to pick up a broom before holding it like a lightsaber and wearing the Rebellion ring given to him by Rose Tico. Now, Star Wars: A New Legacy has revealed a new moment from the original trilogy's Galactic Civil War that perfectly connects to this moment.

Since The Last Jedi's release, there's been some debate about whether the movie's ending was setting up "Broom Boy" as a character who might become a Jedi in the future or was simply just a kid infused with hope, having been inspired by stories from the past. However, Marvel's new and canonical Star Wars: A New Legacy #1 reveals a story from Jason Aaron and Leonard Kirk about the Empire's elite unit known as Scar Squadron, and the moment when its leader Sgt. Kreel knew the Empire was losing the Galactic Civil War:

Seeing kids dressed as the Rebellion's greatest heroes who once dressed up like stormtroopers, this moment connects to "Broom Boy" who similarly imagined himself a galactic hero defending the galaxy from regimes like the Empire and/or the First Order.

Kids Pretending To Be Rebel Heroes Happened Long Before The Last Jedi

"Broom Boy" Was Just A Kid Infused With Hope

This new comic definitely s the idea that "Broom Boy" aka Temiri Blagg was simply echoing children of the past who wanted to emulate heroes they'd heard about in stories and seen on the Holonet. Rather than being set up as some future Jedi hero in the future of the Star Wars timeline, it's more likely that Temiri was just inspired with hope for the future. In the same vein, the same is true with the kids seen in this new comic. The Rebel heroes they're pretending to be were fighting for a better kind of galaxy.

That being said, Temiri is still confirmed to be Force-sensitive. This means that he at least has the potential to become a Jedi once Rey Skywalker starts rebuilding a New Jedi Order. However, it's arguably better for the story if The Last Jedi wasn't setting him up to specifically be a future Jedi hero, and that he was simply shown to represent the galaxy's enduring hope in the galaxy, wishing for a life of adventure not unlike Luke Skywalker at the beginning of A New Hope.

Both Moments Represent The "Moment Of Victory"

When The Hearts and Minds Have Already Been Won

Seeing these kids dressed as Rebel heroes represented Sgt. Kreel's understanding that the Empire was losing the war. The hearts and minds of the galaxy had been won in the Alliance's favor, and the same was just as true for the Resistance, who was continuing to fight the First Order decades later during the sequels. Even as Kreel desperately recommits himself and his troopers to killing whoever they have to in order to force the galaxy to see them as heroes, this comic highlights a powerful moment of victory for the light, and the same is just as true with The Last Jedi's "Broom Boy".
