Star Wars prequel trilogy, and showed each of them navigating personal and political problems, all the while fighting for their own causes.
Throughout it all, each character was faced with making difficult choices, from Ahsoka's heart-wrenching decision to leave behind her found family, to Captain Rex's continued choice to trust in his fallen friend. Whether these were hard choices to make or simply the best course of action, every character in the show made at least one good decision.
Darth Maul - Helping Ahsoka Through Order 66
Darth Maul was the best animated villain in Star Wars, and for good reason. His return in the final arc of The Clone Wars saw him at his best, as he infiltrated Mandalore in an attempt to bring Darth Sidious down and ended up dueling with Ahsoka.
Although he was eventually captured by Ahsoka, Maul didn't lose sight of his own plans and decided to help her escape when the tragedy of Order 66 ensued. Through all the chaos, Maul's decision to help Ahsoka benefited him greatly, as he was able to steal and ship and escape unscathed, making it a very wise choice indeed.
Count Dooku - Orchestrating The Death Of Sifo-Dyas
Throughout The Clone Wars, Count Dooku proved to be an intelligent and patient man, who often waited for the right opportunity to present itself before he made his move. His best decision came in this style - under his alias of Darth Tyranus, he made the strategical choice to ally himself with the Pykes and paid their syndicate to bring down the Jedi Sifo-Dyas's shuttle.
The move ensured that the Jedi Council was unaware of Sifo-Dyas's involvement with the production of the Clone army, and secured Dooku's loyalty to Darth Sidious. Whilst this sequence of events happened off screen, the narrative was explored in season 6 of Clone Wars and showed how Dooku's decision had paid off.
Asajj Ventress - Becoming A Bounty Hunter
Asajj faced many difficulties, from Dooku's betrayal to the destruction of her homeworld. Yet, she always rallied and showed herself to be a fearless fighter who survived against the odds. Her best decision was to turn to the life of bounty hunting, as it allowed her to forge her own path without the restraint of any masters.
Through her life as a bounty hunter, Asajj was able to atone for her past sins - she teamed up with Obi-Wan in a fight against Maul and Savage, and even helped Ahsoka when she was on the run from the Jedi Order. The choice gave Asajj a new purpose in her life, one that ensured that she no longer answered to anyone else, and it was the best one she made.
Yoda - Following Qui-Gon
Yoda's journey to the Sith homeworld of Moraband was one of the best arcs in The Clone Wars, as it followed Yoda confronting all of his fears and doubts head-on. Initially, Yoda was fearful when he heard Qui-Gon's voice come to him, but he soon chose to trust the specter of his friend.
The decision to follow Qui-Gon's spirit led Yoda down an insightful and profound path, where he was able to learn the secrets of the Force, and how to transcend into a Force ghost upon death. Out of all the wise decisions Yoda made, this was his best, as it allowed him to fully open up to the Force and the benefits proved to be plentiful.
Captain Rex - Trusting In Fives
Rex's loyalty to his friends was one of the best things about his character, as he constantly went out of his way to protect those he cared for. While he couldn't save Fives, Rex did choose to trust in his friend and kept his memory alive long after death.
Despite the other Clone's misgivings over the tragedy of Fives, Rex's loyalty to his fallen friend ensured his own survival. When Order 66 was called, Rex ed what Fives had uncovered about the inhibitor chips, and the information allowed Ahsoka to help in removing the chip from his head. The decision to believe his friend even amidst the chaos ensured that both Ahsoka and Rex survive, and it was a moving tribute to Fives.
Pé Amidala - Helping Satine On Mandalore
Pé was an inherently good character, and she made many decisions with others' best interests at heart. Whether it be her humanitarian efforts or political influence over the Senate, Pé was a strong leader, which was clear when she went out of her way to help Duchess Satine on Mandalore.
Pé arrived on the planet to help secure aid during the economic crisis, but soon learned that children were being poisoned, so she chose to infiltrate the perpetrators and put a stop to their sinister plots. Not only did Pé's choice to stay and help go a long way in forging a stronger alliance between Mandalore and the Republic, but she also saved the lives of countless children.
Ahsoka Tano - Leaving The Jedi Order
Despite being one of the saddest things that happened to Ahsoka, her choice to leave the Jedi Order was actually her best decision throughout the series. After a harrowing series of events that led to Ahsoka being accused of a crime she didn't commit in "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much," Ahsoka was forced to go on the run and attempt to prove her innocence.
Although she was able to clear her name, Ahsoka chose to not accept the Council's apology and reinstatement of her Padawan status, instead deciding to walk her own path. The choice was a sad one, as Ahsoka had to leave behind so much of her life with the realization that the Jedi weren't as wise as they once promised, but it was ultimately for the best as it allowed her to forge her own way, and avoid the tragedy of order 66.
Sidious / Palpatine - Killing Savage But Not Maul
Some of Palpatine's best decisions in the Star Wars prequel trilogy were his political maneuvers and how he manipulated the Republic and the Separatists to his own will, all the while concealing his identity. However, his best decision in The Clone Wars came when he went up against Darth Maul and Savage Oppress, and killed the latter.
From their first meeting, it was clear that Maul and Oppress would pose a problem to Sidious's plans, and his choice to eliminate Savage ultimately saved him a great deal of trouble. However, he also chose to not execute Maul, deciding that he may prove to be useful to him. Through all his cunning decisions, this was a strategic choice and went a long way in furthering his own cause.
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Keeping Anakin And Pé's Relationship Secret
Obi was a skilled Jedi and clever strategist, who often thought of intelligent solutions even in the midst of a battlefield. Yet, his best decision in The Clone Wars was a reflection of his loyalty to his friends, as he chose to keep Pé and Anakin's relationship a secret, despite knowing the ramifications it could cause.
Although the secrecy surrounding Pé and Anakin's romance ended up causing great harm, Obi's decision to keep quiet about the two was still a good choice, as he allowed his friends to have happiness without consequence. Obi went against his better judgment and it was moving to see how much he cared for Anakin, however unwise he thought the relationship to be.
Anakin Skywalker - Accepting Ahsoka As His Padawan
The portrayal of Anakin throughout The Clone Wars improved his character greatly and added a depth that wasn't given in the prequel trilogy. Alongside his better character development, Anakin also made many good decisions in the series, but his most notable one came in the preceding film when he accepted Ahsoka as his Padawan.
They were at odds with each other at first, but Anakin was quick to see the potential in her and recognized her feisty spirit as similar to his own, prompting him to choose Ahsoka as his Padawan. The decision was Anakin's best by far, as he and Ahsoka made a brilliant team who learned a lot from each other, and Anakin found a true friend in her that he very much needed.
