It's being reported that Daisy Ridley's Star Wars movie, rather than the single "New Jedi Order" film by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Following reports that Lucasfilm had been in talks with Simon Kinberg to write and produce a brand-new trilogy of Star Wars films, it's now been said that Rey Skywalker is being viewed as a critical cinematic asset for future projects. As such, it's quite possible that Rey could play a crucial role in this trilogy.
According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, Daisy Ridley's Rey is apparently "key to the franchise’s next turn." That said, it remains unclear which movies Rey Skywalker is being eyed for beyond the already confirmed "New Jedi Order" movie that was officially announced by Lucasfilm in April 2023 at Star Wars Celebration. However, it's not hard to put the pieces together and assume the new trilogy in the works would be the logical space for Rey to appear, continuing her story beyond what was seen in 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
What Rey Means For The Future Of Star Wars
"A Critical Cinematic Asset"
According to one insider who spoke with THR, "She (Rey) is the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways maybe the only one, Star Wars has right now." Because Lucasfilm has yet to produce and release a theatrical release since 2019's Rise of Skywalker, this does make a lot of sense. Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and Grogu are certainly being given the chance to become "cinematic assets" themselves by leaping to the big screen with 2026's The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, it really is just Ridley's Rey Skywalker at the moment with a proven track record.

Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What's the best way to watch Star Wars? Here's everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
All in all, this new report certainly suggests that Rey is set to have a big Star Wars future that's still to come, possibly serving an "Obi-Wan Kenobi" type role and guiding a new generation of characters in the galaxy far, far away. That said, one does have to wonder what this report means for Rey's "New Jedi Order" movie and whether it will just be canceled with its ideas perhaps being integrated into Kinberg's trilogy (if it is indeed Episodes 10-12, which has yet to be confirmed). Either way, it seems as though audiences and Star Wars fans should expect to see a lot more of Rey Skywalker in the franchise's future.
Our Take On Rey's Future
There's Certainly More Rey Stories To Be Told
The idea that Rey will likely be starring in more than one future Star Wars movie is as surprising as it is exciting. Beyond the events of the sequel trilogy, there are certainly more stories to be told with Rey, such as rebuilding a new version of the New Jedi Order and hopefully succeeding where Luke Skywalker failed. Likewise, the chance to redeem and give Rey Skywalker an arguably stronger story following the controversial Rise of Skywalker is also an exciting prospect for the Star Wars franchise's future.
