James Mangold's Star Wars movie - usually referred to as Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi - will explore the ancient history of the galaxy. The future is bright for Star Wars, with the franchise set to return to theaters at last. There are four Star Wars movies, scattered throughout the timeline.
One of the most exciting is a project helmed by James Mangold. The talented director worked with Lucasfilm on Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny, and he made his own pitch for a Star Wars movie - one telling the origin story of the Jedi itself. Here's everything that's known about "Dawn of the Jedi" at this early stage of development.

Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What's the best way to watch Star Wars? Here's everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
When Dawn Of The Jedi Takes Place In The Star Wars Timeline
The Jedi Order former 25,000 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and "Dawn of the Jedii" will go back even further. In fact, according to James Mangold, this will tell the story of the first Force-s - and might not even include the word "Jedi," instead ending with hints of how the Jedi would form from this. While some Star Wars novels have headed back in time to the High Republic Era, 200 years before the prequels, no canon explores this age of the galaxy and the Jedi.
Who Is Involved In Dawn Of The Jedi
Logan director James Mangold is set to direct the Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi movie. Mangold has also directed the forthcoming Lucasfilm movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and his interactions with Lucasfilm were clearly positive - explaining why the studio approved this pitch. Because Dawn of the Jedi is in the early stages of pre-production, there has been no announcement regarding the cast, nor which characters the story will center around. Only one familiar face was around 25,000 years ago - Ahsoka's droid Huyang, voiced by David Tennant.
What Dawn Of The Jedi's Star Wars Story Could Be
Dawn of the Jedi could feature the first Jedi, or Prime Jedi. An image of the Prime Jedi was seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Ahch-To as artwork in a cave Luke Skywalker visits on the planet Ahch-To, believed site of the first Jedi Temple. It might also include the now non-canon Legends characters who created the Jedi Order - Masters Cala Brin, Garon Jard, Rajivari, and Ters Sendon.
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi could return to Ahch-To, which was first seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi was a Legends comic book series written by John Ostrander and focusing on Force-sensitive individuals who reside on the planet Tython, introduced to canon in The Mandalorian season 2. It is currently unknown whether this Legends storyline will be adapted, or if Ostrander is connected to the Dawn of the Jedi movie. Either way, Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi could return to Ahch-To, which was first seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The story may even feature some of the same shooting locations, as well as bringing back the uneti tree that housed Luke Skywalker's sacred Jedi texts. Only time will tell.
