The cinematic trailer for the game Star Wars Eclipse features glimpses of many different canon species in the Star Wars universe. Eclipse will be an action/adventure game with an emphasis on decision making, and the course of the story will vary dramatically based on the players’ choices. The game looks as though it takes place towards the end of the High Republic era, and will feature a host of new characters and planets, as well as possible returning figures, like Master Yoda.

Star Wars Eclipse has a High Republic setting, meaning it takes place in the era that precedes the Skywalker Saga by 200 years and has so far only been explored in novels and comics. This was largely a period of peace and prosperity for the Galactic Republic, and is also referred to as the Golden Age of the Jedi. The Sith had been gone for 800 years, and the Republic was active throughout the galaxy. However, there was plenty of political unrest, with the Republic also expanding into the Outer Rim territories. Corporations, like the Trade Federation, were growing in might and renown, and came to rival the Republic in its waning years.

A portion of the Star Wars Eclipse trailer displays a bustling bazaar on a new planet with similarities to Naboo and Batuu, and a host of new faces are shown belonging to various species. First, a Rodian with grey-green skin is spotted in front of a pet shopkeeper; these reptilian humanoid beings hail from the jungle planet Rodia, and have large pupil-less eyes and tapir-like snouts. They typically have rough greenish skin, owing to camouflage purposes on their homeworld, but variations in pigment were not uncommon. A number of Rodians were bounty hunters, notably including Greedo, who met his end at the hands of Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and Jakoli in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Another Rodian is spotted moments later in the background of the trailer, this one having reddish-orange skin.

Star Wars Eclipse Features Duros And Mon Calamari

Star Wars Eclipse Setting High Republic Prequels

Mon Calamari have appeared in numerous meme-worthy iral Gial Ackbar, the veteran revolutionary Rebel leader.

Amongst the bustle of the marketplace, a group of four Anomids can be spotted, and later receive a close-up shot. These humanoids are masked and helmeted, dressed in red robes and carrying staffs. The Anomid species hail from the planet Yablari, and wear their distinctive vocoder masks because they lack vocal cords; they communicate with each other through hand and body language, and use the translator masks to transform their subvocal harmonics into audible speech. Under their masks, they have wrinkly textured heads, protruding fin-like ears, and eyes that lack irides and pupils. This species can be spotted in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, such as Silvanie Phest, with the same red robes and staff in Jedha City, before its destruction.

Shortly after, the scene pans over the entire bazaar to settle on a suspicious-looking Duros, who checks his surroundings before walking on. Notable of this species include Shriv Suurgav from the Star Wars Battlefront 2 story campaign, and bounty hunter Cad Bane from Clone Wars. This humanoid species is native to the temperate planet Duro, found in the Duro Sector of the Core Worlds. They tend to present with smooth blue-green skin and large, bulbous heads. Their long, nose-less faces have lip-less mouths and red eyes that lack pupil and iris, though this Duros has a badass-looking eyepatch. This species was one of the first to develop the hyperdrive, allowing for migration across the galaxy; thus, they can be found on many worlds as a relatively dominant species.

Star Wars Eclipse Shows Neimoidians And Alien Jedi

Neimoidian in Star Wars: Eclipse.

Later in the trailer, a stoic, official-looking Neimoidian appears. This humanoid species comes from the humid terrestrial planet of Neimoidia, a planet central in the Colonies, and their presence may indicate that Star Wars Eclipse could feature the Trade Federation. They have smooth, mottled green-grey skin and large orange-red eyes with a pupil that split horizontally, as well as long nose-less faces. These features are reminiscent of the Duros as they are distant relatives; the Duros had discovered Neimoidia long before the High Republic, and over millennia the settlers adapted to the planet’s humid climate and heavy gravity atmosphere. Memorable Neimoidians include Viceroy Nute Gunray and his right-hand (Neimoidian) man, Rune Haako, of the Trade Federation organization.

The trailer also provides a shot of the Jedi High Council Chamber, in which Yoda stands overlooking a busy Coruscant. Yoda is one of Star Wars Eclipse's High Republic Jedi, but as far as his alien species is concerned, it's yet to be officially named. These beings are small in size and stature, with green skin, expressive pointed ears, and large eyes. There are only a few other known ‘Yodas’ in the Star Wars universe, including Jedi Master Yaddle and Mandalorian Foundling Grogu. From these three, it is deduced that this species has an extended life expectancy and a strong connection to the Force.

There are of course human characters shown too, and in the Star Wars universe, they are thought to possibly be native to the ecumenopolis Coruscant. They are the most numerous sentient species by the time of the Galactic Civil War and populated many planets across the galaxy as the dominant species, such as Naboo and Tatooine. The former may even be a location in Star Wars Eclipse's trailer, no lightsaber is ignited when she's onscreen.

Amongst the recognizable canon species of the trailer, Star Wars Eclipse also seems to be introducing various new species. This includes bright green, three-eyed space monkeys carried by a vendor; an odd-looking four-legged animal that sips from a pond as a speeder bike races by; and a hoard of Voldemort look-a-like drummers that perform a ritual under the eclipse to seemingly resurrect some kind of figure. Star Wars Eclipse promises to bring much-loved aspects of the Star Wars universe together with brand new material set in the High Republic, an era not yet explored by game or film media.
