Fans of Star Wars may think they know the full story of Emperor Palpatine and Kylo Ren, but that's all changing now that Lucasfilm has unleashed the first official image of Tava Ren, a new Knight of Ren set to canon by facing off with Kylo Ren in the Star Wars: Legacy of Vader series this summer.

The bombshell reveal comes courtesy of Lucasfilm Publishing's as part of Star Wars Celebration, announcing new comic and novel series expanding on the larger Star Wars canon of past, present, and future. The creative team of Charles Soule and Luke Ross has already changed the way fans see Kylo Ren's story in its first issues, with artist Stefano Raffaele ing the book with Issue #4. Although multiple covers were shown as part of the event, it is the reveal of Tava Ren on the cover of Legacy of Vader #8 which dropped jaws.

Star Wars New Knight of Ren Tava Concept Art

There is little known about the mysterious character of Tava Ren, beyond the official cover art for Legacy of Vader #8. Thankfully, Lucasfilm also release official sketches of the character from series artist Stefano Raffaele. Who the mysterious character is under the mask, or whether that's even a question fans should be asking, is impossible to tell. Could this helmeted woman be a known character to fans already, explaining why she stands apart from the other movie Knights?

What stands out immediately is that while Tava Ren's design fits perfectly among the other Knights of Ren, she is wielding her own red lightsaber in the cover art. That makes her unique among the Knights, with Kylo Ren the only member previously seen to be wielding a Sith blade. That's aside from Ren, the previous leader of the group who was added into canon by Charles Soule with his Rise of Kylo Ren series. Could this lightsaber be the same blade Ren wielded, or derived from it? It's anyone's guess for now.

Tava Ren makes her debut in the new canon when Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #8 arrives this summer from Marvel Comics.
