While Star Wars is known for its legendary heroes and iconic villains, the ing characters help bring the fictional universe to life and expand the story in compelling and colorful ways. Although characters such as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo may get all the credit and glory for saving the day, they could not have done it without the help of their faithful sidekicks.
Some of the sidekicks are perfect juxtapositions to their partner, while other ing characters, provide their heroes with invaluable assistance and undying loyalty.
Salacious B. Crumb
As seen in Return of the Jedi, Salacious B. Crumb was a part of Jabba the Hutt's court, often acting like his jester. He was most recognizable for his distinct appearance and shrill, piercing laugh. After being electrocuted by R2-D2, he was on board Jabba's sail barge when it exploded, presumably killing him.
Despite his limited role, Crumb has become a fan-favorite character. His high-energy and high-pitched maniacal laugh perfectly complements Jabba's deep voice and lethargic persona. He remains one of the most memorable side characters, even if he was not one of the survivors of the explosion of Jabba's barge.
Kuiil
Kuiil was an Ugnaught who seeks out a quiet and peaceful life, becoming a moisture farmer on the planet Arvala-7. When he crossed paths with Din Djarin, he agreed to help teach him how to ride the blurrg, beginning a partnership with the Mandalorian. He repeatedly aided Din on his quests until he was shot and killed by Imperial troopers.
In addition to being knowledgeable and talented, Kuiil was also a kind and gentle character who provided Din with some much-needed help. His wisdom and guidance helped inspire the Mandalorian and deeply impacted his growth as a character.
K-2SO
Originally operating as a security droid for the Empire, K-2SO was reprogrammed by Cassian Andor and became part of the Rebel Alliance. He accompanied Andor's crew on their mission to find Galen Erso and to steal the plans to the Death Star, sacrificing himself in the process.
K-2SO is easily one of the best characters in the non-episode Star Wars movies thanks to his sarcasm and personality. He was a great friend to Andor and an invaluable member of the crew that helped changed the fate of the galaxy.
Nien Nunb
Sullustan smuggler Nien Nunb was a skilled pilot and underrated contributor to the Rebel Alliance. Nien Nunb served as Lando Calrissian's co-pilot and sidekick during the Battle of Endor, flying the Millennium Falcon into battle and delivering the blow that destroyed the second Death Star.
He was an upbeat and fun-loving character who often found a way to crack a joke or say something sarcastic even in the face of danger. He was a brave pilot who was always willing to face impossible odds for the sake of the Rebellion.
Fennec Shand
Lethal mercenary and bounty hunter Fennec Shand has spent years working alongside some of the most dangerous crime lords in the galaxy. After being left for dead and rescued by Boba Fett, she uses her knowledge, skills, and experience to help him build up his own crime family.
Fennec is a strong and intimidating no-nonsense character who is the perfect sidekick for Boba Fett. Her tough and intelligent personality makes her the ideal second in command for his criminal empire and a great partner.
C-3PO
Protocol droid C-3PO was unwittingly pulled into the Galactic Civil War as a result of his proximity to R2-D2. Despite his constant complaints and pessimism, C-3PO ended up being an instrumental member of the Rebellion.
C-3PO is a great character that fans love to hate, as he can be annoying and negative but in an endearing way. He is an unlikely hero, but his translation skills and etiquette came in handy more than once during the group's adventures, such as when they encountered the Ewoks on Endor.
BB-8
Following in the footsteps of R2-D2, BB-8 plays a similar role in the sequel trilogy as he carried a map to Luke Skywalker's location. Throughout the films, he was constantly able to save the day with his ingenious thinking and wide range of abilities.
BB-8 is a courageous and active droid, never hesitating to take action. He is a loyal friend who manages to rescue the others multiple times, like when he helps Finn and Rose escape from Canto Bight and operates an AT-ST walker to stop Phasma from executing them.
Grogu
Also known as The Child, Grogu is a high-interest target for the Imperial Remnant. Once he was picked up by Din Djarin, the two formed an unlikely bond as the Mandalorian went to great lengths to protect Grogu and reunite him with his people.
While he may be mischievous at times, Grogu is an adorable character who instantly became a fan favorite. His heartbreaking separation from Din at the end of season 2 proved how strong their bond was and showed that Grogu is an ideal sidekick for the Mandalorian.
R2-D2
Astromech droid R2-D2 has been a beloved sidekick to several important figures including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. Because of his close relationship with these central characters, he has been a part of some of the franchise's most iconic moments, like the destruction of the Death Star.
Useful, loyal, and sassy, R2-D2 is a great side character who communicates everything without ever saying a word. He is also a great partner to C-3PO with his adventurous free spirit perfectly contrasting C-3PO's cowardice and skepticism.
Chewbacca
Wookie co-pilot and Han Solo's partner in crime Chewbacca is one of the most loyal and lovable of sidekicks in film history. He became Han's lifelong friend after Han set him free from enslavement to the Empire. He accompanied the smuggler on countless adventures including the Kessel Run and the assault on the Death Star.
Chewbacca and Han were inseparable from the moment they met all the way up until Han's untimely death. They have one of the strongest relationships in Star Wars and their connection makes them an iconic duo. After Han's death, Chewbacca continued to be a great sidekick, helping Rey continue the fight against the Dark Side.
