The Star Wars franchise is loaded with easter eggs, references and hidden details the average fans misses. Whether it's a cameo or reference to another movie, George Lucas made sure there were plenty of opportunities to have some fans with his cast and crew.
Blink and you'll miss a majority of things on this list, as it takes a keen and sharp eye to notice them. Without further ado, here are 10 Hidden Details You Probably Missed from Star Wars.
Imperial Logo
After Anakin's defeat on Mustafar against his former master, his body is left scarred and his limbs severed. The reconstruction process isn't pretty, and nothing short of painful and uncomfortable. Look closely during the top-down shot and you'll notice the symbol of the Empire formed around Anakin. Fitting, considering the Republic recently fell and democracy had become a dream rather than a reality.
Writing on the Wall
On-site filming for Tatooine was disastrous, with a rainstorm (the first in decades) and prop malfunctions plaguing every minute of Lucas's big story. So much so that the crew left behind marks from setting up on a rock wall.
In the Tusken Raider attack scene, look closely at the wall in the back covered in what looks like cave paintings. These are marks from the production crew after setting up the shot for the scene. Call it a mistake or an easter egg, this is a pretty neat catch.
IG-88's Head
The bounty hunting killing machine made an appearance in the same model, that is, not IG-88 himself) and can even be seen in New Hope. The head of the killer droid was used as a drink dispenser in the cantina. Look closely when Luke orders a drink and taps the bartender's shoulder, as he turns you can see the head along with some adjustments to appear as a beverage machine. You have to start somewhere, from barista to bounty hunter, IG-88's all about the work grind.
Cell Block 2187
Princess Leia's cell block number may seem like a randomly generated number, but it actually isn't. Finn, from The Force Awakens trilogy, is given the name FN-2187, a direct homage to the holding cell Princess Leia was held in on the Death star in New Hope.
Listen closely to Han as he tells Luke which cell Leia is in, and you'll hear him state, "Cell 2187". Homages to the original trilogy are popping up in every Star Wars movie, Finn was practically 40 years in the making.
Pilot Down
The asteroid field chase from Empire Strikes Back is a roller coaster of nonstop action as the Millenium Falcon outruns the Imperial Fleet. But look closely at one of the TIE Fighters that gets hit by an asteroid and you'll see the pilot flying through space as a result. It's very quick but when slowed down fan can see the TIE pilot spinning as his ship collides with the gigantic space rock. What were those odds again, C3Po?
Storm Trooper Crowd Surfing
The ending of Return of the Jedi showed fans a montage of celebration through some of the beloved planets from previous entries. One stands out from the rest as it involves a crowd-surfing Stormtrooper. Yes, you read that right.
During the shot of Coruscant and the toppling of the Palpatine Statue. if fans look towards the bottom of the screen they can see a stormtrooper crowd surfing (against his own will of course) amongst the citizens.
Mandalorians
Fans were quick to notice the various flags hung above the entrance of Maz Kanata's cantina, and one of them sticks out from the rest. Sitting in the center amongst the myriad of colors is the symbol of Mandalorians. This is likely just an easter egg but also an indication that there could be Mandalorians who frequent Maz's place from time to time. Who knows, maybe Din Djarin stops in from time to time for a game of sabacc.
ET Phone Home
George Lucas and Stephen Speilberg have been close friends for decades, even vacationing together in Hawaii to write the first screenplay of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Since the two are so close, there was bound to be an easter egg or two in one of their respective films.
In Attack of the Clones during one of the senate meetings, one of the alien races seen amongst the crowd is none other than ET himself, along with two delegates from the same planet. Conversely, in ET there is a child dressed up as Yoda in the of the scenes, to which ET follows with interest. Who said the two masterminds had to exist in different universes?
Stanley Kubrick
2001: A Space Odyssey had a huge influence on George Lucas's universe, so much so, a space ship from the movie can be seen in The Phantom Menace. While Qui-Gon bargains with Watto in the junkyard, look towards the back and you can see one of the space pods from the famous sci-fi flick.
What's even better is how obvious it is, with little to no effort to hide it. It's almost as if it was purposely done as a nod to one of the greatest directors in cinema history.
TIE Fighters and X-Wings on Coruscant
Star Wars fans love a good X-Wing and TIE Fighter dog fight in space, dodging missiles and laser beams above the death star or Star Destroyer. Fans can even see one briefly in Attack of the Clones during the speeder chase with Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Zam Weasel.
When Anakin downshifts and flies straight towards the ground in an effort to follow Zam, look towards the bottom right of the screen and you'll see two TIE Fighters chasing an X-Wing. Blink and you'll miss it, but it's a fun detail for fans looking to expand their Star Wars trivia.
