In the recent Book of Boba Fett episode, a BD droid similar to the one in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order appeared, reminding everyone why BD-1 is one of Star Wars' best droid companions. Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019 and follows Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan, who is hiding from the Empire after Order 66. Early in the game, Cal discovers and befriends a droid called BD-1, which helps him in his journey to rebuild the fallen Jedi Order.

The Book of Boba Fett's fifth episode didn't actually feature Boba Fett at all, and instead focused on a surprise return of The Mandalorian's Din Djarin (who will also feature via DLC in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga). In the episode, Mando returns to Tatooine to pick up a new ship from Peli Moto, who helped him in the previous seasons of The Mandalorian. In Moto's workshop, a BD droid is being attacked by a Womp Rat and is saved by Mando as he arrives. Throughout the scenes in the workshop the BD unit helps Din and Moto to fix up an old Naboo N1-Starfighter - as seen in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace - to be his replacement for the Razor Crest, which was destroyed in the season prior.

It was really exciting to see a BD droid in a Star Wars story that isn't related to Jedi: Fallen Order, and it was a great reminder to those who played the game that BD-1 is the best droid companion in Star Wars. In addition to Fallen Order having lots of unlockable BD-1 skins, Cal's companion was useful in many ways during gameplay, from opening locked doors to revealing important information that helps him in his journey. There have been many iconic companion droids throughout Star Wars' history - from R2-D2 in the original trilogy, to BB-8 in the sequels, and even T3-M4 in Knights of The Old Republic - but BD-1 quickly jumped to the top of the list as soon as it first appeared.

What Makes Jedi: Fallen Order's BD-1 Star Wars' Best Droid

Cal Kestis Giving BD-1 Stim Shots In Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

There are a lot of reasons why BD-1 is the best droid in Star Wars, but honestly, the biggest is because they are adorable. BD-1's design is technically impressive while also adorable: the large scanner as one eye, and a holoprojector as another, coupled with the antennae on the round discs as ears give the droid a puppy-like expression. This fan-created LEGO Star Wars BD-1 set does an amazing job of getting those adorable features across, but another big part of BD-1's cuteness was how he jumped around like a rabbit and would hop onto Cal's back most of the time to travel around.

Cuteness isn't the only reason BD-1 is the best droid out there though, as they also have an impressive array of tools that Cal makes the most of throughout the game. When he finds BD-1 they are in need of repairs, and after getting the upgrades the droid has full scanners and sensors, a holoprojector, and a scomp link for getting into computers. BD-1 can also give Cal stim shots that heal him during combat, which can be unlocked and upgraded through Jedi: Fallen Order's skill-tree.

BD-1's toolset alongside their adorable look easily makes them the best droid companion to have features in Star Wars. It's exciting that another BD droid has appeared in the Star Wars universe now. not just because it means there are more of the cute droids out there, but because it shows how the Star Wars games are becoming more important in adding new canon content to the universe. With a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel confirmed to be in development, fans shouldn't have to wait long to see BD-1 in action again, and the droid could end up meeting one of their BD siblings.
