FIRST ISSUE IN THE PREQUEL ERA! It begins here: MARVEL’S first series focusing on the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy: THE JEDI KNIGHTS! Featuring your favorite JEDI like QUI-GON JINN, OBI-WAN KENOBI, YODA and MACE WINDU alongside BRAND-NEW JEDI sure to become fan favorites! And who is the mysterious new villain targeting Qui-Gon Jinn?

Each issue of the series will see a different Jedi duo taking on a unique threat, with the series building to the reveal of the overarching villain who binds them together. Writer Marc Guggenheim explains that the series is about seeing how the Jedi operated before Palpatine used the Clone Wars to break down their ideals and safeguards, showing them at their prime as galactic peacekeepers. Guggenheim states:

I love the idea that the Jedi are the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. But there are surprisingly few examples of that out there - mainly because the Jedi get sucked into the Clone Wars. I’m as much of a fan of the Clone Wars as the next guy, but I really craved seeing the Jedi doing their thing on a non-war footing. That’s the great appeal of this new Jedi Knights series: We really get a chance to see what the Jedi did before the Clone Wars and their eventual fall.

Orchestrated by Sheev Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious, the Clone Wars were used to sow chaos across the galaxy, with the conflict deliberately engineered to chip away at Jedi philosophy. Fighting the hellish war invited the Jedi to indulge in their darker instincts and form connections beyond the general respect for life expected of Jedi knights. The Jedi went from spiritual peacekeepers to generals... or at least that's the transformation fans attributed to Darth Sidious before now. It turns out Palpatine was building on a recent 'evolution' caused by Star Wars: Jedi Knights' mysterious villain.

With Star Wars: Jedi Knights promising to depict a Jedi evolution, fans are about to see how the Order went from its purist form to an organization ripe for corruption and destruction. The fact that this comes at the hands of a mysterious enemy who is targeting Qui-Gon Jinn - a Jedi who often questioned the Order's rigid application of Jedi philosophy - is the type of dark irony fans have learned to expect from the franchise.

Another reason to be excited for Star Wars: Jedi Knights is the debut of Atha Prime - a character created in concept art for Return of the Jedi and used as the antagonist of Kenner's unreleased The Epic Continues toy line. It seems Atha Prime will be a significant threat, with Editor Mark Paniccia teasing, "You’ve literally never seen so much lightsaber action in a comic book!"

Atha Prime will be introduced as the tyrannical leader of a mysterious planet - is this the grand threat that will target Qui-Gon Jinn and force the Jedi Order's disastrous evolution, or just another piece of the puzzle? Fans will find out when Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 hits comic store shelves.

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 is coming March 12 from Marvel Comics.

Viewed as a maverick Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn was willing to learn from other Force traditions - and some of those lessons taught him how to retain his consciousness after death, becoming the first Force Ghost. Qui-Gon discovered Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine, recognizing him as the Chosen One, and swore to train the boy. This oath was ed to Qui-Gon's apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, after Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul. He remained influential from beyond the veil, however, teaching others how to follow in his Force Ghost footsteps.
