The first trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor may have revealed a few key details about the game's story and setting in its short runtime. Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to the popular Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game featuring Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan that survived the infamous Order 66 and the destruction of the Jedi order. Though initially stranded for five years on a junkyard world known as Bracca, Cal Kestis escaped the planet with former Jedi Master Cere Junda and pilot Greez Dritus once his identity was discovered by the Inquisitors.

The timeline of Jedi: Survivor will cross over with Obi-Wan Kenobi, a new show that focuses on the Jedi Master's life 10 years after Order 66. This places the events of the Fallen Order sequel just five years after the first game, where Cal Kestis can be seen standing aboard the Stinger Mantis with Cere, Greez, and the sole surviving Nightsister of Dathomir, Merrin. After Cal exclaims that the destiny of the Force-sensitive children in the Holocron should be left to the Force, Fallen Order ends with Cal asking, "So where to now?"
Notably absent characters from the first Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer are Cere, Greez, and Merrin, while Cal Kestis can be seen facing off against a hooded figure with a red lightsaber. For now, it is unclear where the rest of Cal's crew are, or what role they'll play in the timeline of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. However, as the trailer continues, BD-1 can be seen looking over Cal's shoulder as the pair stair at an unidentified figure in a Bacta tank. Other notable characters in the trailer include stormtroopers and a sinister-sounding Pau'an senator, who should not be mistaken as the Grand Inquisitor seen in Star Wars Rebels and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Trailer Shows New Villains
According to an interview with Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor Director Stig Asmussen published on the official Jedi: Fallen Order continued, Cal's best skills came back to him through meditation and training, but he might still be considered only a Padawan by most Jedi standards since he cut himself off from the Force as a young apprentice. Now, five years later, Cal's power has grown so strong that he's attracted the attention of not just Darth Vader's Inquisitorius, but also the Imperial Senate as well. The trailer shows this senator being delivered the reforged lightsaber of Jaro Tapal, which Cal wielded toward the end of Jedi: Fallen Order. Why exactly he's interested in Cal is unclear, but it could be that he's fascinated by Jedi artifacts.
The other villainous presence in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer is the hooded figure, who noticeably draws their lightsaber with their left hand. During the duel between this figure and Cal, a repeated series of overhead attacks by the young Jedi is blocked while they keep a single hand on their lightsaber. With a single powerful backswing, Cal is knocked to the ground, causing him to drop his own lightsaber. Although the lightsaber is brought to the Imperial senator, the hooded figure is never shown picking it up. One of Cal's next challenges teased in Jedi: Survivor's trailer may be that a key antagonist is actually a character who lost their right arm before the events of the game.
The hooded figure's identity hasn't been confirmed, but the trailer does not show any indication that they have more than one arm. Their environment, the scenes that are shown, and the silhouette of the figure give no indication one way or the other that they have both arms available to use in their fight against Cal. Additionally, there are no known characters at the time who use a red lightsaber and only have their left arm available. If they do only have access to their left arm, the hooded figure is likely a new character in the series and - like Cal - a natural survivor.
Who Is In The Bacta Tank In The Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Trailer
The identity of the Bacta tank character in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer has not been confirmed, but that hasn't stopped fans from guessing who it may be. One of the more popular theories includes Starkiller, Vader's apprentice and the protagonist of the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series. However, the problem with this theory is that The Force Unleashed is not recognized as canon, so it's hard to believe that Starkiller would be making an appearance in Jedi: Survivor. Other theories have posited that it could be a long-forgotten character from the Old Republic era, or even someone connected to the cloners on Kamino, who have most recently been spotlighted in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch animated series.
Because Jedi: Survivor is even darker than Jedi: Fallen Order, it's likely that the character in the Bacta tank is another new figure with an even darker past. This would explain why they seem to be on a currently unknown planet in an apparently abandoned facility, though, for now, only speculations have been made. Given they're wielding a red lightsaber, it's possible they could either by an Inquisitor or a Sith Lord who has been dormant for many decades. The surrounding environment of the Bacta tank looks like it's been undisturbed for many years, and given Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order took Cal to temples once inhabited by ancient Force cultures like the Zeffo, it could be that Jedi: Survivor sees him unknowingly stumble onto ancient Sith sites instead.
Regardless of who it may be, the markings around the shoulder of the character in the Bacta tank seem to be specific to them, and will likely be part of their origin story. Ultimately, until more information is revealed about the future of Cal and Jedi: Survivor, the identity of this character will remain unknown. It's highly likely that the Bacta tank character is the same hooded figure from above, nursing their injuries when Cal finds them, or perhaps Cal placed them in the tank after another engagement. Like earlier in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer, only the left arm of the figure in the Bacta tank is shown, and the markings found on their arm are not uncommon among those who use the dark side of the force.
