Sony opened the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is coming to PlayStation 5. The Knights of the Old Republic remake has been rumored for quite some time, but since there's still no gameplay to be seen, it seems unlikely it's anywhere near close to release. However, at least PS5 players can rest easy knowing the remake is coming to their platform of choice.

Rumors of a Star Wars titles to modern consoles over the last few years, and it seems the developer has earned earned enough of a reputation with Disney to revive classic RPG Knights of the Old Republic. The series was created by BioWare in the early 2000s, spawning a sequel due to the first game's critical acclaim. A third game was planned, but it was sadly canceled.

Because of how beloved Knights of the Old Republic is, a new console RPG set in the Star Wars universe has been widely requested for a long while. Now, Aspyr is remaking the acclaimed RPG for PS5 and PC. A small teaser starring Darth Revan was shown during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, hyping up some of the things to come in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake's retelling of the original game. Aspyr confirmed in a blog post that the game will be a PS5 console exclusive at launch, meaning it will come to PC the same day but Xbox players will probably have to wait.

Aspyr promises to "maintain the integrity of the story and characters" while using modern technology to add new features, visuals, and much more. Previous rumors have suggested that the KOTOR remake will have more action and potentially do away with the turn-based elements from the original game. Although this hasn't been confirmed, it's worth noting Aspyr only noted it was going to be staying true to KOTOR's story -  not necessarily its gameplay.

Real-time combat may suit the remake better, as that would likely appeal to modern audiences. from the original BioWare development team have also returned to work on this game, so it seems like it's in good hands. There's no indication as to when the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake will release since it's still in early development, but at least it's officially on its way.
