The incredible characters as he did in the original movie. The immediacy in which each new central character of each new film became iconic was astounding, which has a lot to do with the fact that as well as being recognizable, they were fantastic characters.

At the very center of those brilliant characters of the original trilogy was the trilogy's main protagonist, Luke Skywalker. While not perfect, there are so many ways Luke continued to improve throughout the movies.

Got Off Tatooine

Despite how much he obviously cared for his Aunt and Uncle, Luke both was destined for something more substantial and dreamed of life across the stars to match.

Obviously, the circumstances in which Luke left Tatooine, with the death of his Aunt and Uncle, are not exactly great, but Luke was far better by getting off Tatooine and fulfilling his destiny. Had he stayed there, the Empire would have won, and Luke's fate unknown.

ed The Rebellion

Luke's entire dream on Tatooine was to leave the planet, be amongst the stars, and the rebellion, something which his friends, including Biggs Darklighter, had already done.

When he finally managed to get off the sandy rock, that is what Luke did; after taking a massive detour, of course. Luke ing the rebellion when he did, saved it, as the Death Star would have wiped it completely out. He saved the Galaxy.

Trained To Become A Jedi

ing the rebellion was not the only thing that Luke got up to when he left Tatooine though, he found his way onto the Death Star, and found himself taking the first step of his most crucial journey thanks to Obi-Wan; training to be a Jedi.

Luke wielding the lightsaber of his father kicked off his quest, which led him to Dagobah and Master Yoda, as well as the far reaches of the Galaxy as he sought out knowledge of the Jedi, the Sith, and the Force, before starting his own academy as a Jedi Master.

Skill

A big part of the journey to becoming a Jedi was the skill needed to do so. Not just in lightsaber combat, but in knowledge, understanding, and being with the Force.

As a novice in the first two movies of the trilogy, Luke's skill grew and grew in every way, until he became one of the most powerful, most respected, and legendary Jedi to have ever lived.

Found Family

There are so many themes tying together the characters and narratives across Star Wars content, one of the most prominent and critical of those being found family, a family that is not necessarily of blood relation but is still family all the same.

Luke lost both his birth parents and adoptive parents, leaving him with nobody until he meets his greatest friends and allies Han, Leia - also his sister - Obi-Wan, Yoda, Chewbacca, and the droids, improving his life and helping him find his place.

Less Whiny

There are many people out there who may love Luke, but have a big gripe with him as a character, particularly before he becomes a Jedi Master, his whining.

He spends so much time moaning and whining in a very annoying manner, turning many fans off of him in those moments. He eventually grew out of this, becoming a much better and not at all annoying character when he did so.

Acting

Throughout the forty-plus year history of the franchise, there have been so many brilliant performers and performances, serving to improve the movies substantially.

Mark Hamill is a great actor, and in Star Wars, his performances only improve. He is phenomenal in The Last Jedi, where he is nothing short of incredible.

Stopped Looking To The Horizon

In The Empire Strikes Back, one of Yoda's biggest criticisms, and most significant pieces of advice to Luke, related to how he always looks towards the horizon.

After this lesson and many more from Yoda and Obi-Wan, Luke eventually lets go of this and becomes present in the moment, not always looking to the future. This was a criticism Qui-Gon Jinn had with the Jedi Council and Yoda, one Yoda took on board and, in turn, delivered it to Luke.

Maturity & Patience

That being present and not dreamily looking towards the twin suns for hope, and a future is all a part of Luke's growth and how he goes from an immature and impatient boy to a calm and mature Jedi.

Luke by the time of Return Of The Jedi and the sequels is totally different from that of A New Hope, far calmer, far more at peace, with hotheadedness and an excess of ion constantly flowing, absent from his personality.

Saved His Father & Always Came Round To Seeing The Good & Hope

Star Wars Death of Darth Vader

Luke Skywalker's unwavering belief in the light within his father was one of his most irable traits, and one thing some fans felt got betrayed in the sequels. However, he is just human, he makes mistakes, but like Luke Skywalker, he always comes back around.

Even though he seems hopeless and defeated, Luke comes back to help the Resistance. No matter what Luke always finds the good in people and the hope in the Galaxy, even if it may take him time to do so, he continuously comes through and embraces good and hope.
