Warning! This article contains a preview for Star Wars: The High Republic - Eye of the Storm #2
While Sheev Palpatine aka Darth Sidious aka the Emperor has proven throughout his villainous Jedi, there was one before him who proved to be incredibly dangerous in his own right. As Star Wars fans take a trip back in time to the era of the High Republic, a new enemy has emerged who is the worst the Jedi have faced since the fall of the Sith of the Old Republic. In an all-new Star Wars comic preview, fans get a chance to see how great a threat this villain truly is, and what the Jedi are going to do to stop him.
The Marvel Comics Star Wars comic book series Star Wars: The High Republic - Eye of the Storm by Charles Soule and Guillermo Sanna is set 200 years before the prequels in the Star Wars, during which time the Republic is expanding further into the Outer Rim than it ever has before. During that governmental expansion venture, a terrorist rises from the darkness of the crime-ridden Outer Rim to strike fear into the hearts of those who work towards ruling the galaxy. That terrorist’s name is Marchion Ro.
In a preview released by violent act of terrorism, Marchion Ro has recorded an announcement stating that he is the leader of the criminal organization known as the Nihil. With that statement, along with taking credit for the destruction of the Starlight Beacon, the Galactic Republic and its Jedi allies know for certain that Marchion Ro is their greatest enemy to date.
While Marchion Ro has proven himself to be the greatest threat to the Jedi prior to Palpatine, he seems to operate completely differently from the Sith Lord. The best example of that is seen in this preview when Marchion Ro announces himself as the leader of the Nihil and the one responsible for the bombing. Palpatine operates exclusively in the shadows throughout the entirety of his attack on the Republic, and he either kills or corrupts anyone who finds him out. Additionally, Marchion Ro has said in the past that he never makes specific plans, he only sets goals that he works to reach in a number of ever-evolving ways. Palpatine absolutely makes plans in his evil schemes for control over the galaxy, plans that he carries out to perfection.
Even though they have their fair share of differences, the one thing Marchion Ro and Palpatine have in common is their aptitude for villainous leadership mixed perfectly with their lust for power. While it’s too early to tell whether or not Marchion Ro will be as successful a villain as Palpatine, it is clear that during his time tormenting the Star Wars universe, he was Jedi.
