Lucasfilm could be working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens to introduce audiences to Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. These four characters were at the core of the sequel trilogy, but not all of them received adequate screentime in the minds of some.

Disney's sequel trilogy only wrapped up in 2019 with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but there are already rumors about a new trilogy being in development. The rumored new Star Wars trilogy will focus on a revamped version of the Jedi Order. This points to Lucasfilm pushing the franchise beyond The Rise of Skywalker and likely bringing Daisy Ridley back as Rey Skywalker to show the formation of the Jedi. She's clearly set up to be a major character as the galaxy far, far away's story continues, but Star Wars 10 and the new Jedi-focused trilogy could also help redeem another character Rey is familiar with.

If the next Star Wars trilogy is about a rebuilt Jedi Order, one of Lucasfilm's priorities needs to be incorporating John Boyega's Finn and portraying him as a Jedi. The Rise of Skywalker confirmed what fans long suspected by showing that Finn is Force-sensitive. However, the movie made the reveal too late in the process, which meant the entire trilogy didn't have time to explore this significant development in Finn's life. Star Wars 10 can be the beginning of showing Finn's growth as a Jedi and give audiences the character progression many expected from the start.

Finn John Boyega Star Wars Movies

Heading into 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there was a lot of mystery about the movie's story and its characters. However, promotional material for the film famously showed Finn wielding Luke Skywalker's lightsaber and fighting Kylo Ren. This led many to believe that he'd be either the trilogy's main hero or at least a Jedi (or both). The Star Wars sequel trilogy instead put the focus on Rey, which worked out quite well for her, but left Finn as more of a ing character. Lucasfilm's new Star Wars trilogy could finally be where Finn takes the spotlight. Rey could slide into the mentor role of the franchise and train Finn in the ways of her new Jedi Order. In that case, he'd become the central character and fans would be able to watch his power grow.

It's possible that Lucasfilm has already begun planning such an arc for Finn after John Boyega voiced his criticisms of how his character was handled. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy even ed his critiques. The two sides may have since come up with a suitable future for Finn, which could explain why Boyega has started to be a bit more open about his potential return to the franchise. The next Star Wars trilogy making him the star and focusing on Finn's Jedi journey would not only be an exciting development for the new movies, but it would also help redeem his role in the sequel trilogy.
