The original Star Wars trilogy is one of the greatest and most iconic phenomenons of all time, and it kickstarted one of the world's biggest sci-fi franchises. A major part of what helped it become such a success was the characters born in the mind of George Lucas, many of which are some of the most well known in pop culture.

The heroes and villains of the story are so distinct, and their arcs so apparent. Still, ultimately, whether they be a hero or a villain, every Star Wars character has a flaw of some kind, and those of the original trilogy are no exceptions.

Grand Moff Tarkin

Grand Moff Tarkin watches on as the Death star prepares to destroy Yavin IV

As the central villain of A New Hope alongside Darth Vader, it is easy to point out many things wrong with Grand Moff Tarkin.

But, if you want to encapsulate everything wrong with Tarkin, then he is Nazi-esque. It is well-documented Lucas drew large inspiration from the Nazis for the Empire, and Tarkin, with his hateful, murderous, and arrogant nature, embodies that.

Lando Calrissian

Lando Calrissian

Lando Calrissian is as cool of a customer as they come, and one of the many standouts of the original trilogy, but that does not change that he has flaws.

The worst thing about Lando is his selfishness in Empire Strikes Back, but that selfishness gets quickly made up for, and other than his natural arrogance, he does not have any massive negative qualities for the rest of the trilogy.

Yoda

Yoda in Star Wars

Yoda is one of the many hugely iconic characters of the original trilogy, and one of the most powerful Jedi of all time. He does not have many awful traits.

In the original trilogy, Yoda could have been more transparent and clear in his teaching, but, ultimately, this ties into the worst thing about him, which is his detachment from the fundamental nature of a person, and an arguable over-reliance on old Jedi teachings.

C-3PO

C-3PO

C-3PO is one of the classic droids of the franchise and is not a mean or malicious character, but is by no means a flawless droid. Probably the worst thing about C-3PO is how nervous he is, as well as his inability to be quiet on occasion. His snippiness with Artoo is funny, but his nerves lead to him being annoying to many characters, including Artoo, which in turn leads to their arguments.

R2-D2

R2-D2 rolls through Tatooine alone in Star Wars A New Hope

The real hero droid of the original trilogy is R2-D2, and his friendship with Threepio as well as with Luke is terrific.

Artoo is one of the biggest heroes in all of Star Wars, but he also keeps his cards close to his chest, considering he never had his memory wiped, and so clearly knew Obi-Wan, and knew all about Luke and Leia, but he gave zero indications of this whatsoever. He withheld information that could have been very valuable. Then again, it does show how trustworthy the astromech is.

The Emperor

Emperor Palpatine

Emperor Sheev Palpatine is the main villain of the franchise and an iconic one at that, and it is easy to point to the worst thing about him. Palpatine is pure evil, and it's is simple as that. He is rotten to the core, seeking power, the destruction of the Light Side, and the corruption of all that is good.

Darth Vader

Darth Vader

Darth Vader is perhaps Star Wars' most recognizable character and a far more complex villain than Palpatine.

It does appear on the surface as if Vader is another villain of pure evil, but he has a far more tragic story and more layers to him. The worst thing about Vader arguably is that, yes, in the original trilogy, he is a murderous, evil individual. But, in actuality, this all stems from the anger and hatred that burns inside him, that is the worst thing about him.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi has been one of Star Wars' consistently best characters since 1977, and that will likely continue with his Disney+ series.

He is not flawless, though, and, in this trilogy, the worst thing about him is glaring, that being his secrecy. Obi-Wan pretty much lies to Luke at various points in this story, not telling him vital information that would seriously aid all heroes. He had his reasons, but, still, he should have told Luke things like Leia being his sister.

Chewbacca

Chewie strangles Lando in The Empire Strikes Back

Chewbacca is often overlooked in Star Wars, but he is one of the most loyal and loving friends as well as a huge hero in the franchise. Chewie is so loveable that it is hard to pinpoint what's wrong with him, but, ultimately, it is just his general moodiness. He gets very grumpy in the trash compactor and tears people's arms off for beating him at Dejarik—not a very healthy way of living. Nevertheless, we still love Chewie.

Han Solo

All fans know that deep down, Han is a good-hearted man who will always be there for the ones he loves. However, he does not let this be widely known.

Han's biggest issue throughout the trilogy changes as he starts as too selfish to handle, but, when his good nature shines through, his biggest problem becomes arrogance. Arrogance is the more prominent of the two, and it led to a lot of the bickering between Luke, Leia, and himself.
