White Lightsabers Are Created By Purifying Corrupted Kyber Crystals

By Purifying The Crystal's Nature, It Becomes Balanced

In order to make kyber crystals for lightsabers bleed, a Sith must use the dark side of the force to corrupt the crystal. They imbue their hate, fear, and pain into the crystal. Since crystals are naturally aligned with the light side of the force, corrupting them is a difficult task that carries risk. Kylo Ren's lightsaber must be re-designed to for the excess energy due to his damaged bled crystal. Even Darth Vader had difficulty attempting to make his crystal bleed at first.

In order to purify a bled kyber crystal, one in tune with the light side of the force needs to meditate and imbue the corrupted crystal with positive emotions. By doing this, the crystal will become a bright white color. Unlike other colors of the light-sided crystals, the color white is a harmony of balance. The white crystal is free of all evil, which requires tremendous skill. This is why it has rarely been done in Star Wars lore.

Few Jedi Have Learned How To Purify Kyber Crystals

Only One In The High Republic Era, Ahsoka Tano After The Clone Wars, and Luke Skywalker In The Comics

The first Jedi to purify a corrupted crystal was Jedi Master Jora Malli during the High Republic era, around 232 BBY. This is shown in The High Republic: Light of the Jedi novel. Master Malli was part of the Togruta species and a member of the Jedi High Council. She found a bled crystal and decided to try and purify it as a sort of academic exercise. After doing so, she felt a strong bond with the crystal and inserted it into her lightsaber.

The second Jedi to purify a kyber crystal was Ahsoka Tano, as depicted in E.K. Johnston's Ahsoka novel. After returning to Radda to save some friends from Imperial execution, Ahsoka encounters an Inquisitor she defeats after his double saber explodes. She then takes his crystals and begins to meditate as she purifies the crystals. She does so by empathizing with the fallen Inquisitor. She wondered who trained him and felt sad that someone twisted his good nature to the dark side of the Force. After meditating, she found her new lightsabers complete and bright white upon activation.

Kneeling beside her fallen foe, Ahsoka sifted through the wreckage of his lightsaber hilt. The crystals that had powered his lightsaber were no longer contained by metal, but their song had not dimmed. She held them in one hand, almost shaking as the familiarity of them coursed through her.

Luke Skywalker (as shown above) also purified a kyber crystal in 21 ABY. Luke was assisting a former member of the "Acolytes of the Beyond" named Komat. Luke is given advice on how to perform the task. Similar to what Ahsoka did, he must empathize with the crystal 's pain and anguish. By understanding the , Luke can drive out the negative emotions by implanting positive ones. This comic shows that going through the crystal 's memories to understand their pain is vital to purifying the crystal.

Purifying a corrupted crystal is a challenging task that can only be accomplished by the wisest of Jedi in tune with themselves. They need comion towards the crystal's to understand that the crystal, like its , was once good. By empathizing with these painful memories, the crystal can be alleviated of its manipulation and anguish. Doing this is what creates the rarest lightsaber color in Star Wars.
