Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Released in 2005 for PC and the original Xbox, Republic Commando is a tactical FPS that puts players in the role of an elite Clone Commando at the height of the Clone Wars. In addition to gunning down various enemies in darker and grittier environments than other Star Wars-based games of the time, players issued commands to their squates - not unlike the real soldiers that Lucasfilm consulted while developing the game.
As is the case with most stories centered around Star Wars' various Clone Wars troopers, the soldiers of Delta Squad have unique skills and personalities that set each of them apart. RC-1138 (aka “Boss”), the leader of the group that players control directly in Star Wars: Republic Commando, is a brave and straight-laced soldier who issues orders to his team with conviction. RC-1140 (codenamed “Fixer”) is the tech genius and second-in-command who oversees hacking open doorways and repairing damaged equipment. RC-1207 (or “Sev” as he’s more commonly called) is a gruff brute who relishes the chance to gun down Battle Droids and Geonosians alike on the battlefield. Finally, RC-1262 (nicknamed “Scorch”) is a lighthearted wisecracker who is always making a witty remark in the heat of war.
Republic Commando’s Delta Squad Matches The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Delta Squad's ' differing personalities lead to memorable character interactions throughout Star Wars: Republic Commando's clone-focused story, and fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may find each clone’s personality archetype familiar. Leonardo and Boss are serious leaders who place themselves at the center of battle. Donatello and Fixer are soft-spoken tech experts. Raphael and Sev are hot-headed bruisers who thirst for combat and appear standoffish toward their brothers. Michelangelo and Scorch are the comic relief that can light up even the darkest situation. For added irony, Sev and Scorch’s armor colors match Raph and Mikey’s bandanas - though Scorch’s yellow markings could also be compared to the mask of the IDW-published TMNT comics’ fifth turtle, Jennika.
This is far from the first time that Star Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been compared to each other, as TMNT arch villain The Shredder has more than a few similarities to Star Wars' terrifying Darth Vader. Likewise, the Turtles have often found themselves caught up in intergalactic adventures that could have easily been pulled from George Lucas's iconic space opera. There were even plans to have a crossover toy line for Star Wars and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in 1991, but this never materialized beyond some recently unearthed concept art.
Just like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Delta Squad clones of Star Wars: Republic Commando are a close-knit team of warriors that see each other as family and have each other’s backs in the heat of battle. This teamwork and loyalty would lead Boss and his fellow clones through plenty of dangerous missions, both in their home game and the Star Wars: Imperial Commando novels that revealed what happened to Delta Squad after Republic Commando. Hence, it’s all the more appropriate that the characters of Star Wars: Republic Commando match up with the Heroes In A Half Shell in of personality and role in their respective teams.
