complaints about the Star Wars prequel trilogy when the movies were first released (and many continue to be circulated to this day), plenty of nostalgia has grown over the years, especially with the generation who were kids when the prequels were released. The fanfare around Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary theatrical re-release was proof enough of that.

During Fan Expo Philadelphia, Finn actor John Boyega weighed in on this conversation, identifying Revenge of the Sith as his favorite movie among the three prequel movies. As shown in a video posted to TikTok by va.va.vera, in addition to this ranking, Boyega shared his perspective on Revenge of the Sith and its importance in Star Wars—and he couldn't be more right.

In particular, Boyega's explanation that, "It was something about that, the emotion of it, the crescendo of this is the end, and then his transition into Darth Vader, for me, was epic to witness," feels like an especially accurate read on the importance and significance of Revenge of the Sith.

What Revenge Of The Sith's Anniversary Means To Star Wars

The Franchise Has Come So Far In The Last 20 Years

It's incredible to reflect upon all that has happened with Star Wars' best TV shows have also been released during this time. In fact, one of those shows was Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which provided so much more context to Revenge of the Sith.

Andor season 2, episode 8, just took one of the most brutal moments from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and somehow made it even worse.

Stars of Revenge of the Sith, especially Hayden Christensen, have also experienced a major shift since that movie was released. Unfortunately, Christensen was among those on the receiving end of harsh, at times vitriolic backlash (that he didn't deserve). In recent years, though, that public perception has largely changed, which has only been furthered by Christensen's brilliant returns in both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.

Our Take On Revenge Of The Sith

We Couldn't Agree With John Boyega More

While John Boyega didn't go so far as to say Revenge of the Sith is the overall best Star Wars movie (in fact, he clarified that this is his favorite prequel trilogy movie specifically, as he can't rank all Star Wars movies collectively), I couldn't agree more with his perspective on the movie. Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie in my opinion because of what it reveals about Anakin Skywalker's Star Wars timeline. This really is the height of the Skywalker Saga in many ways, especially from an emotional standpoint.

It was also incredible to hear about Boyega's interactions with Hayden Christensen, especially given both are actors who were subjected to harsh scrutiny by parts of the fanbase yet continue to have love for the franchise. It's just the cherry on top that Boyega also recognizes Revenge of the Sith as such an important, influential Star Wars movie. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith truly is one of Star Wars' best movies, if not the single best, and its 20th birthday is the perfect reminder of that fact.
