Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy has officially confirmed Rey's new Jedi Order movie will connect to Star Wars' Jedi origin film. Speaking at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy announced the next three movies in the ever-expanding franchise. James Mangold will tell a story about the first Force , Dave Filoni will draw together the various threads of The Mandalorian era in a blockbuster movie, and Shareem Obaid-Chinoy will continue the story of Daisy Ridley's Rey Skywalker.
Speaking to Games Radar, Kennedy has now confirmed there will be connections between at least some of these movies. According to Kennedy, Rey's new Jedi Order movie will have strong thematic and conceptual links to Mangold's film about the dawn of the Jedi. The latter "was something that Jim [Mangold] immediately sparked to, and I think it's a really nice compliment to what we're doing with moving into the future with Rey, and then understanding a bit more of where this all came from," she explains. "Because it will be at the heart of creating the new Jedi Order, so to get a real sense of where that might have began with the dawn of the Jedi could be pretty cool."
What Will Rey Know About The Dawn Of The Jedi?
Mangold's movie is being described as the dawn of the Jedi, but in reality it may well jump back even further than 25,000 years; Mangold himself has hinted he is telling the Ten Commandments of the Force, the story of the first Force . That means he's likely spinning back beyond the origin of the Jedi, beyond even their precursors the Dai Bendu, before teachings of the Force were codified in any way. It's a thrilling prospect, meaning Mangold is telling far more than a Jedi origin.
Rey's knowledge of this distant time will naturally be incomplete. Still, she acquired ancient Jedi texts in Star Wars: The Last Jedi that may well contain information about the first Force s. What's more, Rey possesses the Force power psychometry, allowing her to experience the past when she touches a person or object. Given that is the case, she could easily learn secrets lost in the mysteries of time, perhaps even establishing a direct thematic link between these different Star Wars movies.
