As the hero of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, it's exciting to think about Rey Skywalker's life before that time, especially now that The Mandalorian era is exploring the years between the original and sequel trilogies in more depth. Rey is quite young during the events of the sequel trilogy, but she undergoes a massive amount of both change and growth over the course of those three movies. By the end, her wisdom certainly sures her years. The question is when exactly all of this takes place in relativity to the events of The Mandalorian.

The Star Wars timeline uses a dating system centered around the Battle of Yavin, when the first Death Star was destroyed in A New Hope. Everything else happens either before that battle (BBY) or after that battle (ABY). The Mandalorian season 1 starts in 9 ABY, which is just five years after Return of the Jedi, while Star Wars: The Force Awakens kicks off the sequel trilogy in 34 ABY. With The Mandalorian and The Force Awakens taking place 25 years apart from one another, is it possible that Rey was alive during the events of The Mandalorian?

Rey Skywalker Is Born Just After The Current Mandalorian Era

Rey is Born in 15 ABY

So far, Rey is not alive during the events of The Mandalorian. Rey is born in 15 ABY, making her just nineteen years old in The Force Awakens. Seeing as The Mandalorian begins six years before Rey's birthdate, the events of the Star Wars TV show and its spin-offs still happen years before Rey's birth on Hyperkarn. As of the time of writing, The Mandalorian era only stretches to about 12 or 13 ABY, though there is potential for this era to continue its expansion - and perhaps overlap with Rey's birth.

If This Era Continues To Expand, Rey Will Definitely Be Alive

It Currently Takes Place Between 9 ABY & c.13 ABY

The timeline of The Mandalorian era is extremely murky at the moment, with official sourcebooks and the creators themselves constantly contradicting one another, but it's widely assumed that each season of The Mandalorian has taken place at least one year apart from one another. This would mean that The Mandalorian season 1 takes place in 9 ABY, season 2 in 10 ABY, The Book of Boba Fett in 11 ABY, and The Mandalorian season 3 in 12 ABY. Ahsoka takes place at some point after season 3, though it's uncertain whether that's also in 12 ABY or in 13 ABY.

The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 are said to both take place in 9 ABY, but one year is not a long enough time for everything Din and Grogu go through.

Either way, it's easy to see the pattern of The Mandalorian era's expansion. There is certainly a strong possibility that this era could stretch to 15 ABY, and could cross over with Rey's birth and her earliest years in the galaxy. Though it's highly doubtful that a young Rey Skywalker will ever actually be seen in The Mandalorian era, there is plenty of reason to believe that her existence will, in fact, have an eventual crossover with these key events that continue to set up the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Trained by both Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, Rey fought against the First Order as an ally of the Resistance. She ultimately triumphed against Palpatine himself, channelling the full power of all Jedi.
