Star Wars has introduced a bunch of concepts that have become part of pop culture, most notably the Force, through which those sensitive to it can channel different powers and abilities, but these change depending on the side the leans towards to the most – and here’s every Force power that only the Sith can use. Ever since the movie now known as Star Wars: A New Hope was released in 1977, this vast universe has been in constant expansion not only through movies but also TV shows and other media, most notably books. However, it’s best known for the Skywalker saga, which covers a total of nine movies that established the basic concepts and main characters that would lead this franchise.

Through characters like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine, viewers have become acquainted with the politics within the Star Wars universe, the habits of the many species living in it, and their different abilities, but the most popular concept that originated in this universe is that of the Force. This refers to an energy field created by all life that connects everything in the universe, and as such, it resides in all lifeforms, but it’s especially powerful in certain individuals. These people are called Force-sensitive, and with proper training, they are capable of consciously sensing the Force – and through that, they can harness it, thus accessing a variety of Force powers.

These abilities can vary depending on the side of the Force the has more affinity with: the light side, to which the Jedi Order adhered, and the dark side, mostly represented by the Sith. Although both sides have some powers in common, due to the ideology and purposes of each one some powers are only present on light side s and others on dark side s – and so here’s every Star Wars Force power only the Sith can use.

Mind Tricks

Both Jedi and Sith can do mind tricks, and though there are some that are of common use, others are exclusive to one side. In the Sith’s case, they can use mind control on their targets, thus taking complete control of their will and using them as their puppets. The Sith also push boundaries when it comes to obtaining information from their “victims” through “mind probe”, which allows them not only to scan their thoughts but go as deep as to steal deep memories and stored knowledge. This is obviously not a smooth and painless process for the victim, and the damage can be so intense that in some cases they are left mentally broken.

Sutta Chwituskak/Bolt of Hatred

This ancient Sith technique was conjured through magic and created a radiant sphere of pure hatred. With it, the could hurt any target by flinging it at them, and on impact, the sphere caused a lot of mental and physical damage. Although this power has mostly appeared in Star Wars Legends media, it was present in The Clone Wars, in the episode “Sacrifice”.

Force Choke

As the name says, this is a dark side Force power used to choke a victim, often with a grip-like gesture. It’s a technique of telekinesis fueled by dark emotions, and some s could even lift the victim off the ground, holding them by their necks. This power can go as far as twisting, bending, or breaking the target’s neck.

Force Drain

The Sith can also use Force drain, which is the ability to drain life Force energy from other beings and into oneself or another. Force drain, then, can be used to revive and rejuvenate oneself or others, which Palpatine did in Exegol in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker by draining the Force energy of Rey and Ben Solo, which gave him enough strength to use other powers.

Dark Illusion

Star Wars Dark Illusions

Dark Illusion gives the the ability to manipulate Force visions (which both Jedi and Sith can have) to directly attack their target. It is summoned through an ancient Sith ritual and allows the to impersonate specific individuals, resembling them in voice and physical appearance. It was present in The Clone Wars, where Darth Sidious used it to attack Yoda, exploiting Darth Tyranus’ bond to the legendary Jedi Master.

Focused Rage

Force Scream

Darth Vader cries out 'Noooooooooo' in Revenge Of The Sith

Perhaps one of the weirdest powers of the Sith is the Force scream, an involuntary Force exertion. It’s a scream of strong frustration, rage, or grief emitted through the Force which in turn triggers shock waves, causing devastation. This can be seen in the infamous “Darth Vader scream” scene in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Force Lightning

Palpatine attacked Mace Windu in Revenge of the Sith, the target’s skeleton glowed and could be seen through their skin). There are some variations within Force lightning, such as chain lightning, which is a burst of lightning that spreads from the target to those around them; Dark Aura, a mini storm of Force energy and lightning used to torture; and Kinetite, in which the lightning is turned into a sphere of controlled kinetic energy that can be projected at an enemy but can also be deflected.
