Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 8Skeleton Crew episode 8 is the finale for this brand-new Star Wars series, featuring some very exciting Easter eggs. Featuring exciting action sequences as the kid crew of The Onyx Cinder fight to save their home world from Jude Law's Jod Na Nawood and his band of pirates, some really cool connections and references are made to the wider Star Wars galaxy and timeline. This includes some fascinating ties to the events of Order 66 itself.
As seen in the previous Skeleton Crew episode 7, Jod convinces At Attin's security droids that he's a Republic emissary on official business to offload credits from the Republic Mint held beneath the planet with over 1,000 vaults packed with dataries. As such, Wim, Fern, Neel, and KB work together to get a message out to the New Republic for assistance, all while Jod's history as a Force- is finally revealed. As such, here are the biggest Easter eggs and references to be found in Skeleton Crew episode 8.
15 The Supervisor's Tower
Mirroring Palpatine's Throne Room
Both the exterior and interior of the Supervisor's Tower mirror Palpatine's throne room aboard the second Death Star. This includes the two security droids who take the place of the royal guards when Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker come up the elevator in Return of the Jedi, but also how the Supervisor turns to face his visitors just like Palpatine sitting in his throne.
14 The Supervisor Resembles Hal 9000
"I'm Sorry Dave, But I'm Afraid I Can't Do That"
It's not hard to see the similarities between The Supervisor and Hal 9000 from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, especially the big red lens. In 2001, Hal 9000 is a malfunctioning AI system who tries to kill his entire crew rather than lie to them.
13 A Republic Message About Jedi Traitors
Order 66 And The Revenge of the Sith
The last message The Supervisor received from the Republic was that all Jedi were traitors. This connects to the events of Order 66 and the Jedi Purge in Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine's public explanation to justify killing the Jedi Order that led to the dawn of his Galactic Empire.
12 "Princess Fern"
Skeleton Crew's Leia Replacement
Wim refers to Fern as "Princess Fern" while pretending to play with his toys, a fun confirmation that Fern is indeed serving as a dynamic Leia replacement in Skeleton Crew. In the finale, this certainly includes when she's forced to watch the takeover of her planet alongside the villains (Jod), not unlike Princess Leia being forced to watch the destruction of Alderaan in A New Hope alongside Tarkin and Darth Vader aboard the first Death Star.
11 Jod Killing The Supervisor
Mirroring Qui-Gon Jinn
Driving his lightsaber into the droid's big red eye, some viewers will likely see a parallel between Jod Na Nawood killing The Supervisor and Qui-Gon melting the Trade Federation doors at the beginning of The Phantom Menace.
10 All Security Droids Deactivated
Just Like The Phantom Menace
When The Supervisor dies, all of At Attin's power goes out and all the security droids are deactivated. The droids' mass deactivation is not unlike in The Phantom Menace when the control ship is destroyed, allowing the Gungan army to simply push the battle droids over on Naboo (just like Wim does).
9 Hoverbikes to the Rescue
An Amazing Parallel To E.T.
The gang of kids (and Wim's dad) hoverbiking to the rescue is very much a callback to 1982's E.T: The Extra Terrestrial. They even have a big jump across a cliff, mirroring when E.T. makes all the kids' bikes fly near the end of the major Steven Spielberg movie.
8 Pirate Skiffs
Mirroring Jabba's Enforcers
Jod's pirate crew comes down to terrorize At Attin on a fleet of skiffs. This is a parallel Jabba's enforcers on Tatooine in Return of the Jedi, shown circling and intending to feed the heroes to the Sarlacc Pit while hovering around in very similar vehicles.
7 "You’re No Jedi"
A Powerful And Familiar Line
Wim accuses Jod of lying about being a Jedi. As such, the line does bring to mind Ahsoka Tano's classic "I Am No Jedi" line. That said, Jod's of course far more nefarious as a Force-using pirate captain than Ahsoka herself.
6 Jod’s Jedi Master
An Order 66 Survivor
Finally, Jod Na Nawood reveals his Jedi past in Skeleton Crew episode 8. Trying to make Wim understand that the galaxy is a cold and dark place, he confirms that a Jedi once found him and taught him a few things as a starving child, only to later be killed by the Empire. While unnamed, it's likely Jod's brief master was killed by an Imperial Inquisitor in the aftermath of Order 66 and the Jedi Purge, as Jod says she was struggling just as much as he had been (meaning she was likely on the run and being hunted as many Jedi were).
