I think Jude Law’s ’s Jod Na Nawood, a.k.a. Captain Silvo, a.k.a. Crimson Jack, is not mysterious because of his many aliases. No, Jod is mysterious because we still don’t know if he can actually use the Force or not. Half of the show’s lost kids think he can, and the other half thinks he can’t. I’m still on the fence, however.
Of course, as “Captain” Fern points out early on in the show, Jod could have easily faked his use of the Force in the brig using various illusory techniques. If he can connect with the Force, why wouldn’t he use it while retrieving or fighting SM-33? Something fishy is going on, that’s for sure, but I choose to believe it’s because Jod was either a youngling at the Temple when Order 66 occurred, and thus his skills with the Force remain rudimentary, at best, or for another reason entirely; one that gives him a commonality with Ezra Bridger.
What If The Jedi Order Never Discovered Jod Na Nawood's Force-Sensitivity?
Jude Law himself has hinted that survived Order 66 as a youngling, much like Reva in Obi-Wan Kenobi or Grogu in The Mandalorian. That kind of horrific experience would scar anyone for life, let alone a child – it would make sense for Jod to turn away from the Jedi and use his elementary skills with the Force only as and when it suited him. What if he’s just trying to survive?
Jude Law Is Star Wars' Best Chance To Give Me The "Whole New Kind Of Jedi" I'm Eager To See
Though Skeleton Crew has yet to confirm whether Jude Law's character can genuinely wield the Force, I really hope he can. There's so much potential.
However, I believe there’s also another possible explanation. What if Jod’s affinity with the Force was simply never discovered by the Jedi? What if he started exhibiting signs during the height of the Clone Wars, and he simply went undetected?
Having never been trained in any sort of capacity would explain why using the Force isn’t second nature to him, as you’d expect from someone who grew up with the Jedi, and why he doesn’t use it in combat or stressful situations. If this is the case – I’d be happy either way, to be honest – then it would mean that Jod Na Nawood shares a very special trait with Star Wars Rebels’ Ezra Bridger.
Ezra Bridger Was Alone With The Force Before The Ghost Crew Found Him
Those who are only familiar with Ezra Bridger from Ahsoka may not know this, but Ezra was unaware of the Force or his connection to it until he was roughly 14 years old. Ezra was born on Empire Day, and by then, the Jedi Order’s fate had been sealed. No one could help him or train him until Kanan Jarrus – formerly a Jedi Padawan known as Caleb Dume – and the rest of the Ghost Crew arrived on Lothal and found him roaming the streets.
It certainly took Ezra a while to get the hang of things, even with Kanan’s help. Though Ezra has become an unusually powerful Jedi, he might never have been able to unleash his true skills if he hadn’t had someone to mentor him. Perhaps that’s what Jod has been missing as well.
What If Kanan Hadn't Trained Ezra Bridger? He Might Have Become Like Jod In Skeleton Crew
What if Kanan hadn’t been able to train Ezra, though? What if the Ghost Crew had never arrived on Lothal, or they’d simply not crossed paths with him on the streets? Ezra’s life would have turned out very differently. Before he met Kanan, he was stealing to survive (though ittedly, he was mostly stealing from the Empire, leaving his neighbors alone). He’d lost his parents, his home was being overrun by Imperials, and his future was bleak and lonely.
In that type of situation, it would only be natural for Ezra to resort to theft, and perhaps even piracy. Star Wars Rebels’ version of Ezra became friends with various pirates easily enough – his relationship with Hondo Onaka is a personal favorite. There’s every reason to believe he could have ed up with pirates if he was still looking for a place to belong and a sense of family, especially if he never met the Ghost Crew.
Pre-Rebels Ezra and Skeleton Crew-Jod aren’t so different. They’re both mischievous, a bit greedy, a little secretive, and a lot lonely, but ultimately, they weren’t and aren’t genuinely evil.
What if that’s what happened to Jod as well? What if Jod lost his family when he was young, and that’s what led him to a life of piracy and spacefaring? Pre-Rebels Ezra and Skeleton Crew-Jod aren’t so different. They’re both mischievous, a bit greedy, a little secretive, and a lot lonely, but ultimately, they weren’t and aren’t genuinely evil. They needed someone to lead them on a better path. Kanan and the Ghost Crew did that for Ezra in Star Wars Rebels; perhaps the At Attin kids will still do that for Jod in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
