The latest The Acolyte proving incredibly controversial - and ultimately becoming the first ever Star Wars Disney+ TV show to be officially canceled. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the latest release, and it seems to have won over viewers; its Rotten Tomatoes audience score sits at an impressive 81%.
Despite that, though, Luminate's streaming originals charts for November 29 to December 5 (via Variety) reveal that Skeleton Crew failed to break the top 20. Here are the top performers for that period:

To be fair, Skeleton Crew had some heavy competition. Still, Lucasfilm will be very disappointed to see the latest show didn't break Luminate's top 10.
What Skeleton Crew's Performance Means For Star Wars
Is this disappointing... or was it to be expected?
Skeleton Crew feels a little more like a niche project, one aimed purely at the core Star Wars fandom - although, ittedly, with the hope of the fandom will share it with their kids. Unfortunately, it does feel as though it has struggled to reach the average viewer, meaning it hasn't pulled people in. It doesn't help that Google Trends data suggests audiences are interacting with Star Wars TV shows as a single stream rather than as individual shows, meaning there's the kind of downward trend you typically see with multiple seasons.
The interesting question, though, is whether Lucasfilm has actually factored this in with Skeleton Crew. It really does feel like everything the fandom could ever want; a fairly lightweight adventure with no controversy, a lot of Easter eggs, and just a general sense of fun. Lucasfilm may well actually be quite pleased with the reception, even though viewership isn't as high as would surely have been hoped.
Our Take On Star Wars: Skeleton Crew - & Beyond
Just what Star Wars needed right now
The Star Wars fandom is not in a healthy place right now. In the aftermath of The Acolyte, it really does feel as though something has broken, and it desperately needs to be rebuilt. Skeleton Crew is surely the first step in achieving this, something that eschews controversy and reminds the fans what it is they love about the franchise. It provides a base for Star Wars to build on, and that may well be the best thing it could ever have been at this point.
