Summary

  • Tatooine, the most famous planet in Star Wars, features prominently in key moments of the franchise's history.
  • The barren desert world, ruled by the Hutt Clan, is a place of lawlessness and haunting beauty.
  • Revisited in multiple storylines, Tatooine remains integral in the evolving narrative of the Star Wars universe.

The planet Tatooine has appeared 23 times in the Star Wars galaxy, Tatooine's twin suns made an otherwise barren world feel alien and exciting.

Run by the cruel Ponda Baba's arm in the crowded Mos Eisley cantina, there was barely a thirty-second pause before people went back to their drinks. It is made up solely of desert so dry that moisture farming is a lucrative business. Despite this, there is a haunting beauty to Tatooine. This is due to where it was filmed. Tatooine was mostly filmed in Tunisia, although it was partially filmed in Death Valley. As such, it isn't surprising that Star Wars continues to return to it.
