Even The Book Of Boba Fett Hasn't Officially Been Canceled

Canceling a show is no small decision, and Disney Star Wars has made that abundantly clear. In fact, even other Disney Plus Star Wars shows that haven't performed all that well have not been officially canceled. The Book of Boba Fett is a great example of this.

Sadly, despite Boba Fett being a very beloved character in the franchise who has played a pivotal role throughout the Star Wars timeline, The Book of Boba Fett was not well-received. Many found the plot a bit boring, and the story of Boba Fett somehow surviving the events of Return of the Jedi was a hard sell, especially in light of Star Wars' more recent pattern of bringing back characters who were almost certainly dead. Yet, The Book of Boba Fett hasn't been officially canceled.

The Book of Boba Fett seems unlikely to happen, given the reception to the show and the lack of a season 2 announcement, but clearly, Star Wars isn't yet ready to make that announcement. This makes the decision to cancel The Acolyte stand out all the more. In fact, this is a particularly surprising comparison in light of how much more recently The Acolyte was released.

The Acolyte's Cancelation Leaves So Many Stories Untold

In addition to this being a surprising move on Star Wars' part, this cancelation really does mean the end to so many interesting stories. While The Acolyte was certainly controversial, the show did introduce a number of fascinating concepts and storylines, and The Acolyte finale made it seem very likely that answers would be given in a second season. In fact, the finale saw a brilliantly creepy cameo from Sith Lord Darth Plagueis and revealed that Osha was committing to ing the dark side and training alongside Qimir (with whom she also seemed to be romantically linked).

Moreover, the finale introduced the notion that Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh and Master Yoda collaborated on a cover-up to protect the Jedi Order. Unfortunately, it seems none of these stories will be explored further. Instead, Star Wars has officially canceled The Acolyte, marking the franchise's very first Disney Plus cancelation, and will presumably be moving on to other stories.
