The Acolyte season 1's final episode, relationships were shattered and lives forever changed for sisters Osha and Mae (both played by Amandla Stenberg).

With The Acolyte season 1 seeing Osha walk the path of the Dark Side and Mae in Jedi custody, Headland teased season 2's developments to Inverse. Alongside furthering Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) and Mae's alliance and Osha's training under The Stranger (Manny Jacinto), the showrunner hinted at further book cameos from elements of both the Darth Plagueis novel of the Legends and continuity, as well as characters from the High Republic publishing initiative should Lucasfilm approve. Check out Headland's explanation below:

I am really excited about the prospect of the Mae-Vernestra relationship. I really love the idea that Vernestra now has on her hands a Force-sensitive, powerful woman that is, at this point, docile enough that Vernestra would be able to educate and form an allegiance with. So that was very exciting to me to set up.

Obviously, Osha and the Stranger is probably the juiciest relationship that I would love to dive into. There’s so much about them that I would love to explore more, and not just the hand-holding. But the power dynamic between the two of them I think is really interesting. And whether or not they can make that work or it’s something that causes a lot of conflict. That’d be really cool. I would love to see Osha’s development as a warrior. Osha fights in the last scene, but in the rest of the season she doesn’t. So I would love to see her with a lightsaber. I would love to explore that.

I already talked about Plagueis, and then there’s a bunch of High Republic, Legends stuff that I’d be interested in folding into the show. I’ve already talked to [Lucasfilm executive] Pablo [Hidalgo] about some characters from High Republic. We’re still working that out.

The Acolyte's Finale Perfectly Sets Up Season 2

Mae & Osha's Paths Can Expand The Acolyte's Scope.

Vernestra visiting Yoda and hinting towards characters present in the High Republic could appear may hint at explorations of the Jedi High Council

With no season 2 greenlit, The Acolyte season 1 ended with both Mae and Osha with clear, definitive conclusions that could work as a fitting conclusion for each character. With the Jedi Order now placed under further scrutiny by the Senate through the partial truth of the Brendok incident, Vernestra hopes Mae can help her find her former apprentice. Meanwhile, Osha leaves with the Stranger to his mysterious home base in the unknown world, watching the waves crash against the coast and contemplating her new path, all while Plagueis watches from the shadows.

As such, each character's arcs are wrapped, but their paths for a potential The Acolyte season 2 are clear. While Plagueis' cameo may hint towards future Sith connections, Vernestra visiting Yoda and hinting that characters present in the High Republic could appear may hint at explorations of the Jedi High Council, with characters including Oppo Rancisis and Yarael Poof. However, the ghosts of Brendok may not yet be done haunting the narrative, as Mother Koril is confirmed to be not among the Brendok Witch Coven fatalities, with Headland only hinting her Zabrak species may point towards her final fate.

Regardless of where The Acolyte season 2 may take Mae and Osha, Headland has a clear vision for how the series will bridge the gap between the High Republic and Prequel Trilogy eras. Through the shocking relationship between Vernestra and the Stranger, the showrunner has already created a captivating link between the Skywalker Saga's most powerful villain and the High Republic's most memorable Jedi. As such, many may be keen to see just how the showrunner can bring more fan-favorite Star Wars elements together in further interesting ways.
