The Acolyte's showrunner has revealed how Darth Plagueis and the Sith fit into the new Star Wars show's overall narrative. As seen in episodes of The Acolyte released thus far, parallels and teased connections have been made between the powers of the Witches of Brendok and the abilities of Darth Palgueis, Palpatine's Sith master. Now, showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed how Plagueis and the Sith fit into this story, as well as the secret arms race between the dark side s and the Jedi Order.
In a special roundtable interview with Headland, ScreenRant got the opportunity to ask The Acolyte's showrunner about Darth Plagueis and the similar powers wielded by Brendok's witches with their ability to influence the Force to create life, something Palpatine claimed his master was once able to achieve. In response, Headland confirmed this connection, as well as what it means for both the Sith and the Jedi:
Screen Rant: There's been a lot of speculation that the twins' creation is tied to the powers Plagueis sought. Do these powers find their way to the Sith, or are they unconnected?
Leslye Headland: Of course they do! [Laughs.] I’m surprised more people haven’t asked me that question. I’m like, “Obviously!”
Leslye Headland: The Sith are looking for the atomic bomb, they’re looking for “What’s the card that we can have over the Jedi? What’s the Force power that the Jedi do not have?” As far as the Sith are concerned, they’re in an arms race, and the Jedi don’t even know that arms race is happening, you know. Because the person, the being, that can get the power that Aniseya started playing with will start the Manhattan Project.
With Headland having confirmed a direct line between Plagueis and the power displayed by The Acolyte's witches in the creation of Mae and Osha, it's going to be fascinating to see if these ties continued to be fleshed out within the show itself. Likewise, Headland's comments further the notion that the Sith were doing far more in the shadows than the Jedi ever knew.

Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What's the best way to watch Star Wars? Here's everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
The Sith Are Doing Way More Than Surviving In The Shadows
Plotting And Preparing For Their Revenge
A confirmed part of the Star Wars canon long before The Acolyte's premiere, it's been known that the Sith Lords were constantly plotting and scheming to get their revenge against the Jedi Order, even while the Jedi themselves believed they'd long been extinct at the end of the Old Republic Era. Now, it seems as though The Acolyte is building toward the idea that Plagueis will at some point either learn how to wield his greatest power during the High Republic Era, or might even be responsible for teaching Brendok's witches how to artificially create life via midi-chlorians manipulation.
At any rate, it will be fascinating to see how the Sith might come into play as The Acolyte reaches its first season finale. While future seasons have yet to be confirmed, there's clearly room for more narratives to be told, especially considering that the Sith during this time are in a secret arms race for greater power, despite the Jedi's clear ignorance. One can only hope that any cliffhangers or teases in The Acolyte's finale won't be left unanswered.
The Acolyte episode 7 is now streaming. New episodes release Tuesdays at 9 PM ET on Disney+.
