A new photo of Din Djarin from The Mandalorian season 3 finale reveals a costume change that makes no sense for his character, and could greatly impact his appearance in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. The Mandalorian season 3's ending saw Din lose many of his weapons on Mandalore, due to them being stripped away by Moff Gideon in the penultimate episode. This included his jetpack, which he ultimately got back, and his iconic blaster - which, unfortunately, he didn't recover. Instead, he decided to wield two blasters from the Imperial Super Commandos, which seems to be a permanent change.

On a new Star Wars Topps trading card, as shared by VigilantesSaber on Twitter/X, the first full look at Din Djarin and his dual blasters is revealed, and it proves to be quite a nonsensical look for him. The Mandalorian season 3 finale previously teased that Din had tucked the blasters into his belt, and this not only confirms that, but also shows up close how inefficient it is for him. With the handles sticking up and the barrels pressed tightly around pieces of his armor, it seems impossible for Din to draw his weapons with any speed.

Mando Being a Dual Wielder Goes Against an Iconic Western Trope

Though there are plenty of dual wielders in Star Wars, including Bo-Katan Kryze herself, there's one big problem with Din Djarin himself doing the same. The Mandalorian is strongly established as a space Western, with Din as its gunslinger hero. In Westerns, it's typically the villains who are dual wielders, which is seen in Star Wars with the bounty hunter Cad Bane. Din shouldn't be a dual wielder, then, since he's the hero of this Western story. Despite this, there are other heroes who are dual wielders in Star Wars - so they may be making an exception here.

This would be fine, so long as Din gets proper holsters for his weapons. As it stands, having the blasters tucked into his belt doesn't just look odd, but it also isn't functional. An important trait of gunslingers is their ability to have a quick draw, which is a big reason why holsters matter so much. In the position where they currently sit, Din would have a hard time grabbing his weapons with speed and efficiency, seeing as they're raised higher than his holster typically is - and they're positioned to hit his armor (and his explosives) during his draw.

Din is as talented as anyone could possibly come with weapons, thanks to his rigorous Mandalorian training, but even he would have a hard time quickening his draw if he were to keep these blasters in his belt. This was more than likely his temporary solution, seeing as the blasters from the Imperial Super Commandos on Mandalore were much too large to fit in his current holster. Hopefully, by The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, Din will have a more practical solution than The Mandalorian season 3 did for his blaster dilemma, whether he continues dual wielding or not.
