Summary

  • The Razor Crest is back in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, serving as a symbol of Din Djarin's home and bond with Grogu.
  • The destruction of the Razor Crest changed Din Djarin, leading to his erratic behavior before The Mandalorian season 3.
  • The return of the Razor Crest in the movie may signal a return to the quality storytelling of seasons 1 and 2, which audiences have long since been asking for.

A first look at Star Wars’ next movie, coolest ships in all of Star Wars. Before the rise of the Empire, it served as a military patrol ship; however, Din Djarin converted it to adapt to his lifestyle as a bounty hunter.

I’ve always thought that one of the coolest things about Din Djarin was his ship. It became a staple in The Mandalorian and was part of some of his best moments. Because Din Djarin was a foundling, he didn’t really have a home world to go back to, and after Mandalore was seemingly destroyed, the Razor Crest was truly his home in every sense. It was also where he had several heartwarming scenes with Grogu, and where we got to see them form a bond that would prove to be one of the strongest in all of Star Wars.

The Razor Crest's Destruction Completely Changed Din Djarin

And He Hasn’t Been The Same Since

The Mandalorian season 2, episode 6 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy” showed Din Djarin taking Grogu to the beskar staff and Grogu’s favorite toy being recovered by the bounty hunter.

It can also be argued that Din Djarin never went back to “normal” in The Mandalorian season 3 either.

The destruction of the Razor Crest was truly a turning point for Din Djarin. In the final two episodes of The Mandalorian season 2, Djarin became fairly erratic and even broke his Mandalorian Creed multiple times to find Grogu. It can also be argued that Din Djarin never went back to “normal” in The Mandalorian season 3 either. This may be one of the reasons why The Mandalorian season 3 is widely regarded as the worst of the show - because Din Djarin was forced to change following the destruction of the Razor Crest.

The Crest's Return Means The Return Of The Mandalorian's True Spirit

The Mandalorian & Grogu Needs To Return to Form

While plot details are still sparse, The Mandalorian & Grogu sneak peek featured images of the Razor Crest, meaning somehow the ship is back. While it’s likely not Din Djarin’s original ship, I’m ecstatic to see the Razor Crest has returned. Metaphorically, the Razor Crest’s return may also signal that The Mandalorian & Grogu will bring back the feeling we had when watching The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2.

Seeing a return to that quality of storytelling is key for this movie to be a success, and with it being Naboo N-1 Starfighter and get back to his roots with the Razor Crest. If Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau can promise this, The Mandalorian & Grogu is sure to go over well with audiences.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to premiere in theaters May 22, 2026.
