In the last 5 years, Star Wars has released 7 brand-new live-action TV shows, though not all of these shows have received the same amount of praise. Starting with The Mandalorian in 2019, Star Wars has been branching itself out onto the small screen over the last half decade, tackling everything from the boots-on-the-ground fight against fascism in Andor to the whimsical coming-of-age adventure in Skeleton Crew. The reception to these shows has varied amongst critics and audiences alike, something that is reflected in their Rotten Tomatoes scores - though the latter has proven difficult to improve.

While the critics score on Rotten Tomatoes for these shows hasn't had too much of a variation, aside from a lower outlier in The Book of Boba Fett, the audience score has proven to be rather tumultuous. This was especially the case for The Acolyte, the franchise's most controversial live-action show (and, arguably, overall project) to date, which was the victim of review-bombing that has it now sitting at an audience score of 18%. In fact, only one live-action Star Wars show can boast an audience score above 90%, and it's the show that started it all for the franchise.

The Mandalorian Seasons 1 & 2 Both Have Audience Scores Above 90%

No Other Star Wars Show Even Comes That Close

Even 5 years after the release of season 1 and 4 years after season 2, the first two installments of The Mandalorian are still the only ones that have an audience score above 90% for Star Wars. It's really no wonder why this is the case; The Mandalorian is what pioneered live-action TV for the franchise, and its first two seasons were absolutely transformative. Still, with TV shows as critically acclaimed and revered as Andor and even Skeleton Crew, it's surprising that only The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 have managed to achieve this impressive milestone on Rotten Tomatoes.

Why Haven't Other Star Wars TV Shows Achieved This Same Feat Yet?

Star Wars' TV Charm Has Worn Off Over Time

There are a few possibilities as to why no other Star Wars live-action TV show has been able to live up to The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 in of its audience score. The first is that the initial charm created by The Mandalorian has worn off over time. Part of what made that show's first two seasons special was that Star Wars TV was still brand-new, and there was nothing else to really compare it to. It defined the Star Wars television genre and was a beacon of light in a fandom that desperately needed a solid hit.

As more The Acolyte's low score is a result of review-bombing, and both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season 3 have reputations as being rather disappointing for fans in general. Otherwise, however, it's harder to gauge exactly why other Star Wars shows can't break this 90% milestone, though Andor season 2 has perhaps the best chance in 2025.
