After The Mandalorian season 3’s conclusion in 2023, the story of The Mandalorian season 4 is shaping up to be one of the show’s biggest yet.

According to THR, The Mandalorian season 4 scripts were completed before the Hollywood strikes last year, but now the fate of the Star Wars TV show's next installment will reportedly be determined by the success of The Mandalorian & Grogu. If the movie is a hit, then Din Djarin's and Grogu's story will continue to be told in movie sequels rather than television installments. This report also states the movie has become the "priority," meaning there is still a chance The Mandalorian season 4 could happen if there's either a storytelling opportunity to do so or perhaps even more of an outcry from viewers - though the mixed reviews The Mandalorian season 3 was met with doesn't make that seem likely.

Another report has been circulating about The Mandalorian & Grogu acting as the finale for a 6-episode The Mandalorian season 4, though this also remains far from confirmed at this point.

In addition, THR reports that Dave Filoni is helping Favreau, the movie's director, to write the new scripts. This is more than likely due to their desire to connect The Mandalorian & Grogu to Filoni's feature directorial debut, The Mandalorian-era culmination movie. It could, however, also be because the pair intends to include some of Filoni's characters from Ahsoka, such as Hera Syndulla, in The Mandalorian & Grogu, similarly to how Filoni wrote the script for Ahsoka Tano's live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2.

The Future Of The Mandalorian Depends On The Movie's Box Office Performance

Whether The Mandalorian moves forward in its big screen storytelling phase or returns to the smaller TV screen depends entirely on the success of The Mandalorian & Grogu, it seems. Both the audience's reception and the box-office numbers, according to THR, are going to determine the fate of Din Djarin's and Grogu's story. Given how beloved these characters are, however, it seems very likely they will perform beautifully for Star Wars' return to the theater, though this truth is still left to be seen.

At this time, these ideas are mainly unconfirmed reports. Star Wars itself has yet to confirm the true fate of The Mandalorian season 4, as their announcement remained tight-lipped about the possibility of a new season existing whatsoever. It's entirely possible, then, that The Mandalorian season 4 could still be happening no matter what the fate of The Mandalorian & Grogu is - though these reports certainly seem to make a lot more sense.
