Disney reveals fans can expect a third live-action Star Wars content on Disney+.
While Disney+ will stream theatrical Star Wars movies, Lucasfilm is also working on a handful of TV shows set in a galaxy far, far away. The first of these is Rogue One prequel won't premiere until 2021 on Disney+, but Disney and Lucasfilm have further plans for the Star Wars IP on streaming.
During a Q&A session with Disney CEO Bob Iger at the 6th Annual MoffettNathanson Media & Communications Summit, the executive revealed fans can expect a third live-action Star Wars TV show to land on Disney+ in the future (h/t Attractions Magazine/Twitter). No information about the third Star Wars series, such as what it will be about or when it will premiere, was revealed.
With the wide world of Star Wars at their fingertips, it's unclear what exactly the direct prequel to Rogue One. As such, whatever the third series is, it'll likely have some kind of connection to one or more of the movies. Whether that means it's the Obi-Wan Kenobi property fans have wanted for some time or perhaps a spinoff from the new trilogy following the Knights of Ren, it's anyone's guess.
As for when the TV show will premiere, with the Disney and Lucasfilm launch a new Star Wars movie series from Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss in 2022. So there's plenty of Star Wars content planned for the coming years.
