Recent buzz has hinted that 2023 will be a big year for Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars Open World Game From Ubisoft Revealed
Ubisoft's Star Wars Game Is Rumored To Be As Big As No Man's Sky
Following excitement caused by a tweet from Ubisoft Creative Director Julian Gerighty, Insider Gaming reported Ubisoft's Star Wars game will boast a "fully open, seamless universe, akin to that found in No Man’s Sky." The report also boldly claimed that Massive Entertainment's Star Wars game may even rival Bethesda's highly anticipated sci-fi action RPG, Starfield, a title that is apparently twice the size of the largest games to ever come out of Bethesda Studios and will make maps seen in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series seem tiny in comparison.
While the idea of Ubisoft making a massive open-world Star Wars title should surprise no one who has followed the company over the years, this scale may worry those who felt that the likes of Assassin's Creed Odyssey or Assassin's Creed Valhalla were too big, offering up plenty of vast open spaces with little to do across most of them, despite Insider's claims that the galaxy will be "bursting at the seams" with activities. The comparison to No Man's Sky is likely also worrying to some players, as the overly-ambitious space exploration title received the same criticisms upon its initial release before its developer, Hello Games, overhauled it with continuous content updates.
Ubisoft's Star Wars Game Will Still Be Heavily Story Driven
Despite the size of the title's galaxy-spanning map, Julian Gerighty confirmed that it will still have a "captivating story" at its core. The title is going to explore new characters outside the Star Wars movies and TV shows, but unlike recent games such as the acclaimed Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Jedi: Survivor, which created the new character Cal Kestis, Insider states that the protagonist for Massive's title will be a fully customizable character created by players. Whether this means that players could opt to play as a lightsaber and force-wielding Jedi, a gadget-bearing, gunslinging bounty hunter, or embrace the dark side of the Force is unknown, but the Star Wars universe offers a wealth of opportunity.
This character customization combined with a massive galaxy to explore could give players the experience of crafting a Star Wars story that feels unique to them, while building upon the franchise's lore. If Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft can meet the expectation caused by these reports, the scale and freedom could make it one of the most replayable Star Wars titles of all time. The Star Wars universe is massive and regularly expanding, and a map that spans the entirety of it, allowing players to visit any area from the decades of Star Wars lore and interact with its characters in completely unique ways could make Ubisoft's title a huge success if the studio delivers.
