There are very few characters in the entire pop culture zeitgeist of the past forty years - never mind exclusively in the as iconic, and who are as beloved as Han Solo. He was captivating, cool, and charismatic from his first appearance to his last, and is one of the greatest scoundrels in fictional history.

As both a hero and a scoundrel, Han Solo often walks a fine line of moral ambiguity, having peaks and troughs in of how good of a person he is with his actions and personality, with some of those qualities getting worse over time throughout his film appearances.

Selfishness

Han is unbelievably good-hearted, but that good nature is underneath a rough exterior that spends a lot of time focused on only himself, Chewbacca, and the Falcon.

From far more selfish, and between the original and sequel trilogy that selfishness peaks its head out again, not caring that he got a whole crew killed on the job.

Arrogance

Han-in-Han with Han's selfishness is his unbelievable arrogance, which either shows itself as cool and cocky or infuriating for the characters in-universe.

There is an innate charisma Han is born with on Corellia, and over time this definitely morphs into a cockiness that can rub people the wrong way, or at the very least make Han appear as though he thinks very highly of himself.

ing The Empire

Solo shows fans that in his younger years, Han spent a good amount of time in the Empire, far longer than he actually had anticipated or wanted.

His original intentions behind ing the Empire are rooted in kindness and love for Qi'ra, but that does not take away from the fact that Han was a part of an evil, tyrannical force in the Galaxy.

Getting Caught Up With Bad People

Jabba and Han in Star Wars Special Edition

Evident by his place in the Empire, Han has an unbelievable tendency to get caught up with the wrong people, a quality he retained throughout his entire life.

The worst was Jabba the Hutt, who had a stranglehold on Han's life for years, but even out with that, there was Beckett's gang, the Empire, Kanjiklub, the Guavian Death Gang, and a string of bounty hunters.

Smuggling

The most significant byproduct of Han getting caught up with all the scum and villainy of the Galaxy was his life of crime, a life he could not get out of even when he was a hero of the rebellion.

Smuggling spice and various other things for Jabba made up much of Han's life in between Solo and the original trilogy, and while he was always rooted in crime from his time as a scrumrat on Corellia, it only got worse.

Goes From Optimistic To Pessimistic

Speaking of his time in Solo, Han shows fans that he had always been someone who relied on luck, charm, and quick wit to get out of situations, but he also used to be far more optimistic about situations.

By the time of A New Hope, Han is far more of a pessimist than an optimist. He still relies on luck and does not listen to the odds he just believes in himself, but his opinion on the Galaxy and people outside of him and his best friend seems to have massively switched.

Finds A Way To Get Everybody Angry At Him

A quality that nobody else possesses in the same way as Han is that he has this magic way of getting everybody to be angry at him at various points, no matter what the situation.

Luke, Leia, Lando, Chewbacca, everybody gets annoyed with Han. Whether it be in Solo where Lando was simply done with Han, or in the original trilogy where he and Leia constantly bickered, when Han got off of Corellia, he got a lot of people mad, a lot.

Incapabilities As A Father

One of the biggest things to happen to Han in his life was the birth of he and Leia's son, Ben Solo. When Ben fell to the Dark Side and became Kylo Ren, it completely changed and even ruined the lives of Han, Luke, and Leia.

One of the reasons, perhaps the biggest reason that Kylo was able to be seduced to the Dark Side, and felt a strong pull to the darkness, was the failings of not only Luke as a Master and uncle but of Leia and Han as parents who just emerged from a long, tumultuous war.

Treatment Of The Millenium Falcon's Interior

When the fandom first caught a glimpse of the Millenium Falcon when it was under the ownership of Lando Calrissian, a sense of shock and amazement came over it. It was immaculate.

Then, in the years after Han won it in the Sabacc game, the ship became a piece of junk. Granted, fans adore that piece of junk, and it is incredible design-wise, but the treatment of the interior between Han and Lando's ownership is almost unforgivable.

Leaving Leia

The arguable failings of Han and Leia as parents got mentioned earlier, and due to Ben's fall to the Dark Side, Han and Leia's relationship deteriorated, with Leia locked in on the New Republic and the Resistance, while Han struggled to lead that mundane life.

So, they split. Han ended up going back to smuggling, ripping people off, and going on incredible adventures with his best friend by his side. It was a decision that - despite Han's good heart and the understandable reason - sucked, and had he not done so; he may not have died when he did.
