Kylo Ren has been one of the most interesting characters in the unraveled through comics and books, here are 10 things we wish we learned about Kylo Ren's backstory.
Did Kylo Ren Ever Reach Out To Anakin Skywalker?
We all know Kylo Ren was a huge Darth Vader fanboy and heard the fallen Sith Lord speak to him. What about Darth Vader's counterpart, Anakin Skywalker? Anakin is the perfect person to talk to when it comes to being tempted by the dark side and knowing the burden of raw untamed power. He could have given him some advice on staying clear from the path that would ultimately lead him down the dark side. While yes, Kylo Ren obviously did fall to the dark side and commit terrible deeds, it's a plot point that could have been interesting to see in The Rise of Skywalker.
How Did Kylo Ren Become the Master of the Knights of Ren?
In The Force Awakens, Snoke mentions that Kylo Ren is the master of the Knights of Ren. Until The Rise of Skywalker, that's really the only bit of information we got of that in the movies. Even that movie didn't really explain a lot about them and we'll have to see how it plays out in the comic books. They're one of the more mysterious and interesting parts of the sequel trilogy.
Ben Solo clearly was a very gifted force wielder and whether he had to some sort of trial or prove something to the strange group is yet to be revealed. It's strange that we never got to see this play out in the movies as it would have been a very interesting flashback.
When Did Kylo Have A Falling Out With The Knights of Ren?
In The Rise of Skywalker, the Knights of Ren kind of just come back out of nowhere. Where have they been? Do they know that their master got beat by a girl who had never held a lightsaber? Is that why they disappeared? Either way, when Kylo Ren is redeemed they just kind of turn against him suddenly. They don't even seem to hesitate or ask any questions. In fact, we never hear the Knights of Ren speak even once throughout the two films they appeared in.
Why Isn't Kylo Ren A Sith?
In The Last Jedi, Kylo tells Rey to "Let the past die." With that, he includes the Sith and Jedi, which is quite strange as he himself is a of the dark side of the force. This could have been something Snoke put in his head as he didn't seem to be a Sith either. It's strange as to why he'd resent the Sith as he clearly has a lot of respect for Darth Vader who we know as a very powerful Sith Lord. He doesn't seem to show any sort of care for the old ways of the Sith throughout the movies but it's never really explained as to why both him and Snoke don't follow their ways.
When Did Kylo Ren First Meet Snoke?
Snoke is a very mysterious character that became even more mysterious in The Rise of Skywalker. His full backstory is yet to be revealed. This is one of the main questions fans had after he was introduced. To have a young Jedi seduced once again by a mysterious figure heavily involved and strong in the dark side of the force was a cool callback. It just kind of got swept under.
The Last Jedi left fans extremely confused as to why Snoke just turned into a nobody without any explanation as to how he manipulated young Ben Solo. Kylo just killed him and took over his place with no care or attachment to his former master.
How Did Kylo Ren Get So Powerful?
Besides the quick mention of Ben Solo being super powerful with mighty Skywalker blood running through his veins, we never really learn about how he became so strong. Sure, he got defeated by Rey, but he does have a lot of dark-side training we never got to see on screen. He's shown to be a lot stronger in the force than Anakin and Luke. In the opening scenes of The Force Awakens, he's shown to be able to freeze a blaster bolt. How did he get so strong so quick and how did Snoke learn these abilities?
Did Ben Solo Ever Speak To Obi-Wan Kenobi?
For a man that's named after Ben Kenobi, it would be interesting to discover if he ever talked to Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker's former master. Rey has heard Obi-Wan speak to her in both The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker so it would be likely that he would make with him considering he has Skywalker blood. This could have played well in his redemption besides seeing Han Solo. While yes, that scene was emotional and a great way to bring Ben back to the light but being surrounded by past Jedi such as Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Yoda would have been a jaw-dropping experience.
How Did Kylo Ren Find Out About Darth Vader's Helmet?
Unless Luke told Ben Solo the specifics about Darth Vader's death and where his remains were left, it's strange that he even knew that it was still around. It's possible that Snoke told him about it and he used the dark side of the force to bring himself to it but it's never explained in the movies. It's an item that should have been well hidden as it left behind a dark memory of a ruthless time.
It would have been great to learn more about Kylo Ren's relationship with Darth Vader as seeing the helmet was one of the coolest things in the trailers leading up to The Force Awakens release. Unfortunately, it gets destroyed in The Rise of Skywalker but perhaps the story leading up to how Ben came across his grandfather's old helmet will be told in the future.
Why Does Kylo Ren Use A Cross Guard Lightsaber?
Besides trying to be a cool edgy Darth Vader wannabe, it's never explained as to why he uses the ancient lightsaber design. It's known that his lightsaber is made from a cracked kyber-crystal that resembles his unbalanced and unstable emotions. While yes, it's a very cool looking lightsaber. Some backstory on why he chose such a different and unique design for his lightsaber would have made a great flashback. The design stands out and is one of the most memorable weapons in the sequel trilogy.
When Did The Knights of Ren Vision Scene Take Place?
The vision scene that takes place when Rey stumbles upon Anakin's lightsaber in The Force Awakens showed Kylo standing amongst a pile of bodies with the Knights of Ren. It's never explained as to when this flashback took place. We know it couldn't have been at Luke's new Jedi Academy because Ben Solo had not gotten the mask and costume when he burned down the school. This had to have taken place sometime after that event. It's possible this could have been a scene of Kylo searching for his former teacher, Luke Skywalker and would have shown his ruthlessness and ferocity in devoting himself to the dark side of the force.
