They go on to thank ConcenedApe, "For comforting me without even having to play, for being there any time i didn’t feel like myself, for helping me put back the pieces on a bad day, and always making me feel better."

Stardew Valley was created by Eric Barone, known as the monicker ConcernedApe. The developer designed, coded, wrote, illustrated, and composed the music for the game completely on his own. Developing the game took four and a half years, and the game became an instant hit when it was released back in 2016.

That could have been the end of the story, but Barone didn't stop there. Over the course of nearly a decade, ConcernedApe has been adding on to the game, constantly improving it and creating new content, completely for free. The most recent Update 1.6 just received a release date of November, and ConcernedApe has been involved with the process the whole way.

In fact, ConcenedApe on X once stated: "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." He then goes on to urge people to screencap his statement and shame him if he ever violates his oath. His dedication to the game and its community knows no bounds, and it's no wonder that his creation has touched so many lives.

At the risk of sounding like I was "in before it was cool," I played Stardew Valley when it was first released way back in the day. At a time in my life when games barely held my interest for a few hours, I dedicated 67 hours into my little farm. At the time I hoping that the little gem of a cozy indie game would make it big, so others could experience how much heart and ion had gone into it.

Since then, I've gotten to see Stardew Valley expand, grow, and create a wonderful place to belong. My husband, who doesn't play cozy games, played and loved Stardew Valley. My 11-year-old daughter, whose attention is usually stuck on the newest Roblox horror game played and loved Stardew Valley. I've seen everyone from kids to 76-year-old mothers play Stardew Valley and enjoy it, each in their own unique way.

Eric Barone built something beautiful with Stardew Valley and, against all odds, the game is still growing, expanding, and building on the community it created. So to echo Redditor 9planet: thank you, ConcernedApe.
