Stardew Valley knows what it's talking about when it comes to being exhausted after a long day of farming. One player recently found out that the title is pretty accurate when it comes to lack of energy, as they recently volunteered to help out on their boyfriend's uncle's farm with only the game as a reference.
They were quick to learn that taking on a farm requires a lot of hard work and requires a lot of energy and time. The player, jhintoxic, took to Reddit to share their observations with other players. While the work was not as fun as the game made it appear, it also showed the game was very accurate when it came to the hours and grit it takes to run a successful farm.
Both Stardew Valley & Real Life Horticulture Mean More Espresso
A Coffee A Day Keeps The Farm Moving Forward
Stardew Valley players are very familiar with the energy required to keep up their fictitious farm, and comments on the now real-life farmer jokingly shared their favorite techniques for that energetic buzz. AEV_ACNH was quick to teasingly ask if jhintoxic survived on salads and espresso as they do in the game. Others asked if they threw the food in the air and rubbed their stomach right after, as is typical of all Stardew Valley farmers. Real farmers, such as HippyGramma, chimed in with confirmation that many farmers live off of espresso to get through the day.
This friendly banter did not stop at food -- lots of players had plenty of suggestions about how the uncle could increase productivity on the farm. arceus03 suggested, "If his uncle's watering can is made of copper, you could hold it tighter to water three trees at once 👀." This comment inspired others, with some players jokingly contemplating how the uncle could not have iridium sprinklers yet to help water the trees, while others brought up rain totems and copper tools to upgrade his farm just as the Stardew farmers do.
Digging Holes & Cleaning Trees Is Exhausting
The Physical Labor In Stardew Valley Is No Joke (And Pretty Accurate)
The original poster initially thought tending to a real farm would be nothing but fun after logging about 300 hours in-game. However, when they arrived, they were tasked with cleaning about 30 olive trees. Jhintoxic stated, "It took us 7-8 hours.. and today we are back here because we couldnt finish the work yesterday." The player was instantly humbled in their understanding of farming, and plenty of real-life farmers backed up their newfound appreciation in the comments by validating that yes, farming was not always very fun.

Stardew Valley Player's Hard Work & Dedication Leads To Single Sale Worth 51 Million Gold
A ionate Stardew Valley player shows off their incredible achievement as they manage to earn over 51 million gold in just a single day.
While I've never participated on a real farm, I know that my Stardew Valley triple espressos keep me going most of the time and have helped my farm flourish to what it is now. The game clearly makes farming more fun, but it is also an honest portrayal of the dedicated time and energy needed for a farmer to keep everything going on the land. I think that shows a real love for the craft that players are getting to experience, and how dedication to the farm, be it real or pixelated in Stardew Valley, makes a world of difference.
