Mayor Lewis has lost his lucky purple shorts somewhere within the world of building relationships with the locals. As players grow accustomed to running the farm they inherited, they will be tasked by many of the townsfolk to fulfill a variety of quests.
On the third day of the first Summer in Stardew Valley, players will receive a letter in their mailbox from Mayor 
Lewis. In this mail, the Mayor asks the player to discreetly find his missing purple shorts. Players that find and return this item to the Mayor will gain an entire Friendship Heart with him and receive a hefty sum of money, 750gp, for their assistance in this quest.
The secrecy that Mayor Lewis requests for this quest can help clue players in on the scandalous location of his missing clothing. This is because the player can find Mayor Lewis' lucky purple shorts while exploring Marnie's Ranch. In particular, players will notice that Stardew Valley's Mayor left his shorts in Marnie's bedroom, hinting at their relationship with each other. Unfortunately, players will need to put in some hard work to access these elusive briefs.
How to Enter Marnie's Room in Stardew Valley
In order to obtain Mayor Lewis's lucky purple shorts in Stardew Valley, players will need to gain access to Marnie's bedroom. Players will be able to access Marnie's Ranch on most days from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but access to Marnie's personal room is limited to players that have befriended Marnie. For all characters, 2 Friendship Hearts are required in order to access their bedroom. This means that the only way to complete Mayor Lewis' quest is by successfully befriending the town's resident Rancher.
Players looking to complete the Mayor's quest can easily increase their friendship with Marnie in Stardew Valley by gifting her items. Of the items available to the player early in the game, players can reliably increase their friendship with Marnie by gifting her any foraged Mineral, including Quartz. These minerals, while useful for crafting, are easily accessible from the Mines in the north of town, allowing players to secure a solid supply of gifts for Marnie.
Unfortunately, Marnie's birthday is in Fall, so players will need to butter the Rancher up daily if they wish to gain access to her room during the Summer. After finally schmoozing their way into Marnie's room, players will finally be able to acquire Mayor Lewis' lucky purple shorts and choose how they wish to conclude this scandalous Stardew Valley quest.
