Summary

  • Romance options in Starfield are limited to the four core of Constellation, which can feel underwhelming and lacking in choice for players.
  • Romances in the game open up new dialogue, missions, and narrative elements, enhancing the overall story and immersion in the game world.
  • Each potential romantic companion in Starfield has unique personality traits and backstories that can be explored through a romantic relationship, adding depth and complexity to the game's NPCs.

In romanceable Starfield companions, these characters are limited to the four core of Constellation. This leaves much to be desired regarding connection, as a lack of choice can sometimes feel underwhelming in the expansive space exploration game.

In addition to providing a pretty hilarious buff by resting with a partner, romances open up new dialogue, missions, and narrative elements in the game, helping round out Starfield's story. Having more of them in the game would provide further opportunities to explore the unique personalities of the NPCs, thus improving the overall immersion in the game world.

All Companions In Starfield & Shattered Space, Ranked Worst To Best

Starfield has 29 different companions to choose from, and some are certainly better than others. Here's the full list, ranked.

1

10 Vasco

Vasco robot on a pink, blue, and white background.

While the robotic companion may not be the first to come to mind when considering romantic rendezvous, a liaison with Vasco would be an interesting look at human emotions and how that might translate into a sentient robot. While he may not possess the good looks of Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800, he does make several (failed) attempts throughout the game to be more human. Seeing how this could manifest into a deeper human-to-robot connection would be interesting. However, it's doubtful the mechanized being would have good romance dialogue, considering how stiff regular conversations sometimes feel.

9 Lin

Lin from Starfield.

Putting aside the potentially problematic scenario of romancing your boss, Lin would actually make a pretty great romance option later in the game. While at first, she takes on a more authoritative role as a mining supervisor, her prickly exterior gets quickly shed later on in the game. While she never does learn how to wash her face (there's dirt on her face even after recruitment), exploring the softer side of her personality through a romantic relationship would be nice.

8 Jaylen Pryce

Jaylen Pryce looks like he could fit well in the '90s or early 2000's stunt double for Jeff Bridges, and that might have been what Bethesda was going for. Rugged and somewhat hardened by the mean streets of Neon, this Freestar Collective ranger could make a good romantic companion, especially if one wanted to form a crime-fighting duo that could investigate the corruption in the town. While at times apathetic from his years on the force, a reinvigorated sense of purpose with the protagonist could make for a very interesting romance.

"An Instant Classic": Starfield Review

Starfield has plenty of captivating tales and dynamic mechanics that make it an epic science fiction adventure - and an instant classic.

7 Sophia Grace

Sophia Grace in Starfield looking at player.

Sophia Grace can be found in Neon on Volii Alpha at Madame Sauvange's illicit bar. She has a pretty interesting backstory and is looking to escape the gang-infested streets of Neon. Notably, she lets the protagonist know that she's always wanted to visit Earth's Moon, which would be a great segue into a romanic scene with the character. As she's never visited the other parts of the Settled Systems, growing a romance with the character while traveling the galaxy would be quite the story indeed.

6 Jessamine Griffin

Jessamine Griffin looking at Starfield.

While the underhanded Crimson Fleet pirate probably won't be most people's first choice when it comes to romances in Starfield, Jessamine Griffin breaks that mold. The protagonist can initially meet Jessamine at the Last Nova bar on The Key. In addition to a pretty amazing voice and accent, Jessamine's laid-back, cool personality is a refreshing change of pace when most companions in the game feel like the morality police. In addition, she has a pretty dark backstory that shows that income inequality in Starfield may have been the catalyst to her life of crime in the first place, adding layers of depth to this random NPC that other characters in Starfield lack.

5 Vladimir Sall

A screenshot of Vladimir in Starfield, a bald man wearing a striped tank top.

Vlad is probably one of the most likable characters Starfield has to offer, as he is the main person who guides the protagonist through the main questline as he conducts research at The Eye space station. As an ex-Crimson Fleet pirate, he's seen the darker side of the Settled Systems and brings with him the knowledge and experience that inspires reassurance and positive feelings. Though he's one of the more experienced of Constellation, he's also kept in amazing physical shape over the years, making him a prime candidate for romance in Starfield.

4 Noel

Noel from Starfield on a pink and purple background.

Noel is Constellation's resident researcher and scientist and does a great job of filling in the protagonist on the ins and outs of New Atlantis upon the start of the main campaign. While she's a dedicated and critical member of Constellation, she's not actually recruitable, which is disappointing as she'd probably be well-suited as an analyst on the ship or as a companion to explore the Settled Systems and discover new organic flora and fauna with.

Starfield has 20 potential companions and lots of crew who can help out on ships and outposts if you have the Credits to hire them.

Sadly, much of the dialogue Noel has in the game is limited to talking about Starfield's Artifacts rather than learning more about her interesting personality and background, making this one potential romance that many would likely enjoy.

3 Ezekiel

Man with scared face and cowboy hat in Starfield looking at the player.

Those who always had a fondness for Sam Coe but thought that he lacked the edge for a truly ionate romance may have to give Aggie's bar in the back of Akila City a visit to meet Ezekiel. While he does have some facial scarring from a rather dark story, it just helps to highlight his penetrating eyes and dashing good looks. In addition to this, though he may look like a villain, Ezekiel is actually one of the kindest characters one can find in Starfield, making him one of the more preferable theoretical romance options in the game.

2 Imogene Salzo

Imogene Salzo in Starfield.

The world of corporate politics can sometimes feel stifling, and that's exactly how the start of the Ryujin missions can feel in Starfield. While the relationship with Imogene is strictly professional at the start of the quest line, things eventually become somewhat personal as the plot unravels, bringing her and the protagonist closer together, albeit with life-or-death stakes on the line. If the main character does side with Imogene, it would make for a perfect narrative segue into an even closer relationship built upon trust and equal iration.

1 Hadrian Sanon

Hadrian Sanon in Starfield on a pink and purple background.

The hard-nosed Hadrian Sanon is one of the most compelling characters throughout the Starfield storyline. A scientist and researcher at heart, Hadrian's interesting backstory isn't revealed until the end of the main missions for the UC Vanguard. As the main character and Hadrian will not only have to overcome the political underpinnings of New Atlantis together but also help each other take out terrifying aliens known as Terrormorphs, it's only a natural transition that a deeper and stronger bond would form over time. With brains, tenacity, and penetrating orange eyes, Hadrian is potentially most deserving of being a romance option in Starfield.
