One of Starfield's most interesting and compelling aspects is the high level of ship customization available in the game. With a modular ship builder, people can edit and alter their ships to the most minute detail, creating some pretty impressive creations. Even though Starfield just received its wide release on September 6, 2023, it isn't stopping people from flocking to the internet to share their creations. The results are pretty mind-blowing at times and can provide pretty good inspiration to those currently enjoying the game.

In Starfield, ships are built piece by piece, with a few essential elements necessary for the vessel to take flight. Starfield's high level of customization has inspired many to push the engine to its limits when deg their own space-worthy vessels. While the game has a fleet of iconic starships in its own right, like the Starfield Star Eagle ship, there's still plenty of room for creativity and invention. Whether it's a spaceship inspired by popular movies or TV franchises or just a really great concept, there are many cool ship designs that have already been created in the game.

10 Capybara Ship

Capybara Ship in Starfield landed on a planet.

Mechanical things like spaceships modeled after organic living things like animals make for a great self-imposed mission in Starfield's ship builder. Kurbs on Reddit had that exact thought when they constructed a Starfield vessel modeled after a Capybara with their boyfriend. Less known outside of South America, the Capybara is a giant rodent resembling a landlocked beaver. The perfectly captures the creature's spirit with an oversized cockpit resembling the animal's head, short stubby landing gear, and the creature's well-known brown paint to reflect the animal's fur.

9 Millennium Falcon

Millennium Falcon ship design in Starfield.

When it comes to impressive ship designs based on popular space IP, Triss_Mockra on Reddit did an amazing job and recreated the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. Because of Starfield's modular ship-building mechanics, creating something that looks accurate to the movies is quite the task indeed. While the ship may be missing some of the iconic textures of the original Star Wars ship, this is likely one of the closest things we'll get to the ship in the vanilla version of the game. One joked that it looks more like the "Aluminum Falcon," which might be an unfair criticism considering the engine's limitations.

8 Squid Class Battleship

Squid class battleship design from Gundam in Starfield.

The Squid Class battleship was a featured all-red battleship created for the series Mobile Suit Victory Gundam from 1993. alvalvalv on Reddit perfectly re-creates the look of the iconic ship, which is even more impressive when considering the vessel's odd design. As one of the cooler ships in the Gundam universe, it's a deep cut, and it's clear that the creator took a lot of care in their attention to detail. This ship is so accurate it could even be argued that it might outdo the original hand-drawn cartoon from the '90s.

7 Thomas The Tank Engine

Thomas the Tank Engine design in Starfield.

Turning to Starfield spaceship creations inspired by popular children's IP, MrCaine332 on Reddit re-created Thomas the Tank Engine, the beloved lead of Thomas & Friends, the children's show from the '80s about trains. While this is certainly one of the more creative options to fabricate in the Starfield universe, it also seems like it would be pretty awesome at storing cargo. Naturally, the Starfield rendition of Thomas the Tank Engine uses the same blue and red color palette that the inspiration is so well-known for.

6 D77-TC Pelican

D77-TC Pelican ship design from Halo created in Starfield.

Inspired by another iconic game set in space, Halo, the D77-TC Pelican, or as the creator, SteamingHotDataDump calls it, the UNSC Pelican is a well-known ship from the Halo franchise of games and was used to transport and extract military personnel in Halo universe. As the ship was capable of limited space flight in Halo, it makes sense that people would want to re-create it for Starfield.

5 Borg Cube

Star Trek Borg cube design in Starfield.

It wouldn't be right to exclude Star Trek in a discussion of the coolest Starfield ship design inspirations, and IngeniousIdiocy on Reddit certainly doesn't disappoint with their rendition of the Borg cube spaceship that was featured in a variety of different Star Trek episodes and movies. This massive hulking cube never really made any aerodynamic sense (though they are in space, so it likely doesn't matter) but it did always have a terrifying mystique, considering its enormous hulking frame.

4 Consular-Class Cruiser

Consular Class Space Cruiser from Star Wars in Starfield.

Going for a deeper cut in a well-known space franchise, the Consular-Class Cruiser is a ship from Star Wars used by the Galactic Republic. DaMightyMilkMan on Reddit nearly perfectly replicates the look of this sleek vessel, splattering it with the iconic red and gold that the ship is known for. As one of the most accurate Starfied creations inspired by a movie, the its that they used a clipping glitch to achieve the results.

3 Serenity

Firefly Serenity design in Starfield.

Based on another popular space IP, this Starfield spaceship was modeled after the Serenity from Joss Whedon's Firefly. Featured predominantly in the show as the vessel that carries the crew through space, the neok182 perfectly captures the essence of the craft by almost exactly replicating its look within the Starfield spaceship builder. In addition to posting pictures of the creation, the also left a pretty useful tutorial so that other people could replicate the design.

2 Imperial Star Destroyer

Imperial Star Destroyer starship design from Star Wars in Starfield.

For those looking for something more on the grand or epic scale, the Imperial Star Destroyer design from Star Wars created by Reddit SloPr0 fits the bill perfectly. Not only is this giant spaceship pretty impressive by Starfield means for its size, but it also pretty closely matches the starship it was inspired by. According to the in the comments, apparently, this ship only costs 130K credits to create and is made mostly of Deimos modules.

1 Planet Express

Planet Express Design from Futurama designed in Starfield the game.

SP7R on Reddit perfectly recreated the bulky look of the Planet Express, the ship used in the cartoon Futurama. While the massive vessel does require a ton of parts to put together, it proves the potential within Starfield's ship builder is pretty expansive when all of the game's parts are at the disposal of creative mechanics. Unfortunately — and it makes sense considering how bulky the craft is — the spaceship ends up with a 0 mobility score.
